Rust on the trunk

Well, here is my story so far...

After seeing a couple of posts for rusting trunks, i did a quick check and found a spot right under the chrome lip (sorry no pics). So I took it in to the dealer, and discussed the fact that I can't even imagine how that spot would even be chipped, and the fact that there might be more rust under the chrome lip. As of a few hours ago, the dealer told me that they would send the pics to infiniti and try to get them to pay for the required repair. The service manager said that the body shop doesn't think that it was a chip.

Let's hope that infiniti comes through on this.

I will keep you guys updated.

On a side note, I got a brand new fully loaded EX35 as a loaner. It drives really nice, and feels a tad more luxurious than our cars, especially the leather/leather-like stuff on the cup holders and on top of the dash. And that all around view is cool as well....BUT that being said, I can't wait to get my car back.

hope you get the repair approved. I have never been in the EX, but I do like the FX. I will not change to the dark side though.

Had a loaner EX Monday, I can't stand the little turd. Overpriced Honda CRV lol. I begged for a G sedan but I was too late getting there. Wish my dealer loaned out FX I love those things.

That doesn't sound right to me. The trunk lid is made of aluminum.

That's what I thought ^

Unless the rust is coming from a steel piece, maybe for the trunk release or something.

Are you sure???

I thought that only the hood was aluminum.

The rust is definitely on the trunk right under the chrome lip.

I will try to get a pic and post it tonight.

The dealer will get back by early next week to let me know if it was approved.

One more thing about the EX, those side mirrors are MASSIVE.

Sorry about the lack of pics...but the dealer called and they were able to get the repairs covered by INFINITI, and even though the body shop doesn't supply loaners, the service manager has got me covered for one.

Solid Thumbs Up to INFINITI Canada and to the dealer (Tony Graham in Ottawa) for their excellent customer service.

BUT too bad that I need a total trunk repaint on an 08 with 25k miles.

i have the exact same problem on my '07. do you know if it was covered under the bumper to bumper warranty or the rust perforation warranty? i went to a dealer and they told me that infiniti would NOT cover this as a rust warranty (my bumper to bumper is expired). should i go to infiniti canada with this?

I am not sure which one it was covered under...but if i had to guess, i would think that it was under the bumper to bumper.

Either way, you should take it up with Infiniti Canada

Good Luck

^ no its covered under the "7-year/unlimited-mileage Corrosion coverage" this will be covered as long as you can prove that there is no damage on the area other than rust, therefore proving its corrosion, call infiniti take pics send em to their given email address and tell them you are unhappy and willing to go through BBB/similar(not sure if they have it in canada) and they should take care of this.

i went to a dealer the other day and the service guy told me he's seen it before.

he thinks it may have something to do with the way the chrome strip is applied. he says that it rubs against the paint when the trunk is closed hard and causes some chipping which results in the rust. if this is true, definitely a design issue.

he also told me that in prior cases it was always covered by the bumper to bumper warranty and that the corrosion warranty only covers corrosion from "the inside", whatever that means.

i would just pay for it myself if i didn't have to replace all the logos and $hit on the trunk (they're damn expensive!). i'm gonna give infiniti canada a call and see what they say. anyone in canada have any luck getting this covered under the corrosion warranty?

well my bumper to bumper warranty is expired. and i have a feeling that these auto companies really cover their asses in the fine print when it comes to the corrosion warranty - in the sense that they make sure they'll never have to pay a claim.
