The good thing is it seems you should be covered under the powertrain warranty. The bad is it might be a while before you get your car back.
agree, both cams and crank always move together, if they dont mostlikly almost always timing belt or chain

well on the bright side, the dealer will basically have to do a 60k maintenance for you by putting in a new engine. I know it sucks, but in the end it's just a car, and you had a warranty for the damage.

Mine did that when I first got it....

well I wasnt in cruise control but going about 80 then....nothing.

My battery died. I was able to turn the car on but it was revving near redline and everything else was working except I had no power when I pressed on the gas.

They replaced the battery and smooth sailing after that for a year until the new battery died also. (note to self... dont leave the phone charger plugged in 24/7 in the center console. LOL)

UPDATE...the dealer just called. he said the timing chain did break. but there was no other damage. they are going to put the motor back together and see how well it runs.

my warranty is up in 8,000 miles. i am a bit nervous. what do you guys think?

Thanks!

Sounds like all should work out well then. You'll have a 62,000 mile engine with a zero mile timing chain.

If there was additional damage internally it should be pretty easy to tell once the new chain is installed.

Yours is the only timing chain failure I've read about to date. Though there may be others it seems like it was probably an isolated incident. I think you can probably sleep well at night once you get your car back and don't notice any additional engine-related issues.

There are interference engines like the Cadillac CTS 3.6 that when the timing chain breaks the valves hit the piston and significant damage occurs and non-interference engines like the G's that when the timing chain breaks no other damage should occur. If other damage occurs then there was something else going on with your engine prior to the timing chain problem.
