How long do these cars last, typically?
Because the vehicles I come from are an 83 Ford Bronco (good solid truck but there were engine issues with those mid 80's 351's) 95 Ford Bronco (notorious trans failure around 150k), a Pontiac G6 (don't get me started, horrible car) and a GMC Sierra (I love the truck but the trans is flaky, brakes are giving me trouble, and the suspension is shoddy even after new shocks, truck has 110k on it).
I'm pretty OCD about knowing EVERYTHING about a vehicle before I purchase it. I spent 3 months of research on the truck, in fact. The only one I didn't research and wish I had was the G6.

, at the time I had an 04 G35 and knew what the G6 was so I asked him if he honestly thought I was going to trade my G35 for that?
This is reassuring. The paint doesn't bother me TOO much....any G I've ever seen around here has looked great, even the older ones.
Every time I try to find another car that is comparable to this one, my research always points directly back to the G series. RWD, decent mileage, speedy, looks fantastic, reasonably priced, holds resale value, etc. etc.....I can't really find anything that beats it.

I just can't see it holding any value. I have looked extensively into G8 GTs and they are pretty nice but having my bad experience with the G8's little brother, and its uncertain reliability and resale value, makes me hesitant.
I'm not a big fan of buying models that were only around for a year or two before the parent company went out of business.... that's just me.
Plus, the G seems to be a bit more in line with the luxury level... I don't see that in the G8.
The G8 may be a monster but most people buying the G35 Sedan and looking for a balance of performance and luxury.
Seems like the two cars are appealing to slightly different markets.

According to consumer reports, the G8s seem to have decent reliability. The fact that they are Austrailian Holdens gives them added quality. Plus they are much roomier. Dude, I'd get the G8 GT. Cherish it as Pontiac's last and arguably best production car. Edmunds Inside Line owned it in their long term fleet. I encourage you to read about it there. Excellent write up.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

I know this is old as dirt but as an 06 GTO owner I have to comment. Man was he wrong, G8 GT's and GXP's are reliable as hell if maintained and still command impressive resale values to this day.
I absolutely love my Goat, probably my favorite car I've ever owned.
