I'm pretty OCD about knowing EVERYTHING about a vehicle before I purchase it. I spent 3 months of research on the truck, in fact. The only one I didn't research and wish I had was the G6.
Ok got it. Funny you mentioned the G6, because in 08 I went to a GMC dealership to look at the G8 GXP, and the salesman didn't even know what that was, but he offered me a G6 , at the time I had an 04 G35 and knew what the G6 was so I asked him if he honestly thought I was going to trade my G35 for that?

Check out a used 08-09 Pontiac G8 GT. Has more power than the G35 and looks a little better (IMO), especially if you can find the 19" wheel option. I would get a G8 GT if i could do it over again. Reliability is unproven, however, but those GM LS engines are bulletproof. Plus it's a torque monster. A few quick mods (exhaust, headers, intake) and it will run the quarter in the low to mid 12s. Much faster than the G.

I just can't see it holding any value. I have looked extensively into G8 GTs and they are pretty nice but having my bad experience with the G8's little brother, and its uncertain reliability and resale value, makes me hesitant.

I'm not a big fan of buying models that were only around for a year or two before the parent company went out of business.... that's just me.
Plus, the G seems to be a bit more in line with the luxury level... I don't see that in the G8.
The G8 may be a monster but most people buying the G35 Sedan and looking for a balance of performance and luxury.
Seems like the two cars are appealing to slightly different markets.

According to consumer reports, the G8s seem to have decent reliability. The fact that they are Austrailian Holdens gives them added quality. Plus they are much roomier. Dude, I'd get the G8 GT. Cherish it as Pontiac's last and arguably best production car. Edmunds Inside Line owned it in their long term fleet. I encourage you to read about it there. Excellent write up.

267000+ km & going ...

As long as you maintain the car with TLC it will last you!
I have had my 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe for 8 years --- bought it at 113000km.
Such an amazingly reliable car!

I know this is old as dirt but as an 06 GTO owner I have to comment. Man was he wrong, G8 GT's and GXP's are reliable as hell if maintained and still command impressive resale values to this day.

I absolutely love my Goat, probably my favorite car I've ever owned.

I can't believe he actually compared the G6 to the G8

???

One is a newer Chevy Lumina front wheel drive knockoff and the other is a 4 door corvette...

2004 g35 coupe

I owned a 2004 g35 coupe that had 146k when I bought it. No problems whatsoever, just changed fluids. I traded it in at 225k and still was running perfect.
