The problem will be persistant... unless you are willing to go through the tedious work of removing all parts to prep and paint or vinyl wrapping them, the problem will always be there... re-doing them will only be temporary as those areas are highly touch, rubbed, etc... and will once again peel... so you only have 3 options...
1.prep and paint
2.vinyl wrap
3. Peel off the rest and get used to the bald plastic look and feel (ugly light grey in most cases)
I'm not sure if this went anywhere, but I just bought my G ~5 months ago.
And so +1 on the chipping steering wheel and shifter as well as the door panels around the locks and automatic window buttons.
Take it all off and sand it down and paint it. Mine came out great.
I have a 2007 and the door handles and the steering wheel are peeling. I was wondering how common a problem this was, and happy to see a thread on it. I'm going to contact my dealer to ask about replacement. I'll keep you posted...
Does anyone know if the 2013 G37's interior door trim will fit my 08? I rode in one the other day and noticed that it was made out of a sturdier material that doesn't scratch as easily.
Are people getting this replaced for free at the dealer?

Are people still able to get theses replaced for free at the dealer? I have an 08 and mine is getting pretty bad on doors and steering wheel
My wheel leather is beginning to deteriorate. The only real wear on my 04 sedan is heat/sun related. The car lived most of its life in Florida so it was roasted inside. The clock bezel was brittle to the touch and was the first item I replaced. The leather on the drivers door panel was separating from the rest of it, so I replace it with a donor panel.
I could live with the leather being the way it is (actually not too bad for a 13 year old car!). The only issue is if the weather is cold here the leather or coating comes off in my hands in little black pills and gets everywhere.
I found a flawless wheel (and a drivers interior door panel) from an 06 wreck that has been in climate-controlled storage since 08. Showroom condition.
My question is what can I do to the new wheel to protect it from the elements before I install it?

Very common. I covered mine with PlastiDip but it is a temporary solution at best.
Hello,
I bought a 2007 G35 sport. The ugly plastic trim bezels on door and steering wheel needed painting. This is what I did:
I removed them, then scratched the "lottery scratch off" stuff with.....my fingernails. There is a decent gray primer underneath. If this gray primer is in good shape, lightly prime over it a couple times, then coat with flat black paint, then clear. Resist going too heavy with the primer or it will lift the gray. If the gray stuff wrinkles, you have to strip it down to bare plastic, which is even more work. It does take a lot of time to do it right . But it is pretty easy and looks so much better. Look at cars on CL. Nearly all have this problem even though the items can be painted by DIY.

My wife had really one complaint with our G35 for a few years. She has asked me several times, if there was something I could do about the ugly marks on the steering wheel. I recently started to play with Plasti Dip. I went a little crazy on the car first. then I got the bright idea to try to fix the steering wheel with it. It turned out amazing, and looks brand new again. best of all, it only cost 6 bucks to repair. this is while I was in between coats Final result after 5 coats to ensure quality
That looks amazing! I need to do something like this. I am on my second steering wheel from the dealer. Do you recommend a particular brand?
Thank you,
Use the plasti dip black.$5 to $6 bucks. I found mine at lowes. also get you some tape and drape its about $7 bucks (this stuff is amazing to help mask off the over spray ) I used a citrus base cleaning rag that had some nice texture to it, this helped me remove all the original neoprene right down to the smooth gray surface. clean it up really good with some good window cleaner, and make sure its very dry. if you check out some of the videos on dipyoucar.com what the video on how to dip your vehicle emblems. this will show you how awesome plexi dip really is, and show you just how easy this will be do do your steering wheel. I did 5 coats to ensure quality and make it easy for me to peel off the dip from the area's i did not want it sticking. you don't really need to trim off any of the steering wheel except the out edge from where you are. the only important part here is tape off well, they when you spray the last coat, take the tape off while it is still wet and you will get a nice clean line. this was the only area that did not pull right off for me. I added a little tape on each selector **** to keep the dip from getting down in the cracks where I thought i might have a hard time pulling it out. overall this turned out very well, just like factory or possibly better. it feels just like the factory coat and so far has not damaged. If you need any help, hit me any time.
