so 5 1/2 quarts save to drive? I assume engine will burn off some oil gradually as you drive.

I decided to get a siphon pump at Pepboys for $12. Could not pump out oil from where u pour oil so I pumped from dipstick, I took out about 1/2 quart. With engine cold, now it sits on H. I assume now it should be safe to drive, right?
an inch over H can not be good, at H is ok but next time you want to keep it just below H

I always fill up to L, then check the level the next morning. On my motor, it ends up prefectly at around 1/2 way when cold.

@ *****-ah-sore: I think 1/2 quart over 1500 miles is too much. IMO, you are burning too much oil. I don't need to add any over an 8,000 mile interval.

That's just silly. Why didn't you either go back to the shop and make them do it or just crack the drain plug and let it drain about 3/4 quart ?

^+1 the shop should fix the problem for free. They're the ones you expect to know what they're doing. If you gave them an extra quart of oil, it doesn't mean they have to use it. They should know better. I'd go back there and make sure they fix it.

5.2 quarts will get you right at the High fill line w/ a new filter change. I'd definately drain that .8 quart, no need to put extra strain on the motor/seals. As far as burning oil, my first G (which I sold a couple years ago) has almost 65k on it and I still change the oil for the gal I sold it to. The oil always is still at the high fill mark. I change the syn oil every
5k and my 09 (w/ 24k) also has NO measureable oil consumption. I'd be pretty concerned if I was the poster that said he's going through .5 quarts every 1500 miles. The VQs really aren't known as oil burners, even at 60k. Sure there are isolated oil consumption issues but it's not very common.

I don't trust anyone to change my oil, I've had incidents like the OPs' gone through enough to just do it myself and rest easy

Are you saying that it's halfway between L-H? If so, you're running a bit low (~1 qt). I keep it at H or just a smidge below.

on a side note i've been using fumoto products for about 6 years now and i'll mention that the fumoto valve caused the oil pan on my acura to get ripped off (yes, you read right) by a manhole cover in the street but i blame that more on the local utility who had dug everything up. that being said i still use fumoto products, i am more careful about the clearances to the oil pan.
