Can't do ECU reset
Can't do ECU reset
I am trying to do a ECU reset to clear my CEL due to the throttle body cleaning idle problem.
When I get to the release gas for 10 seconds step (step 6-7) the CEL doesn't blink at all, I tried leaving it for longer and shorter and all types of things but nothing works. Why isn't it blinking as instructed in the steps?
ECU Resetting Procedures
Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON.
A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.
Operations Procedures
1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.

It has to be done exactly as started in the proc. even a second here or there will force you to try again, first time around it took a while for me to get it but then it became easier. i used the music player timer to time all this.
Try it again and you will get it.
Try it again and you will get it.
I was using a stop watch and tried numerous times. Will give it more tries in acouple of days if the idle problem is still there.
Doing this procedure to clear the CEL, will I have to do the throttle relearn and others?

no you dont have to do the relearn unless you think you need it. If you cant get this to work then just disconnect the battery negative making sure it doesnt touch any metal surface and press and hold the brake for about 10seconds and then reconnect terminal and that should reset your ecu.
