I have 36k miles...The fronts have 6mm left and the rears have 3mm. I do get an intermittent squeal when braking hard and high speeds.

Anyway. I am definitely replacing the rears, however, i'm not sure if I should just do the fronts at the same time....6mm seems like its about time...

I'll be doing rotors and pads...

What do you think?

 

just do it yourself, you have some time still on the brakes

 

unless you have air tools getting to that torque member with enough leverage to get it off is pretty close to impossible. 36k you shouldnt be having brake issues unless you really ride it hard. if you are planning on new rotors and pads you might as well run them down until they are near gone.

 

i did mine with a breaker bar with no issues, my rotors were warped near 20k with some "spirited" driving then switched to r1 and have been happy since with almost 40k of no probs.

 

do you see the sensor light on your dash board? If you do then you want to change your brakes. If you do change them out, do it yourslef.

 

no light on the dash yet, and om not that tech savy a tech will be doing this

 

Def replace the rears, i think they start to squeal at 2mm left b/c the wear indicators will touch. Also, the manual says to replaced them at 2mm so you are basically there. For the fronts 6mm sounds fine, i think the pads are 10mm new (maybe 12mm), so you have a few miles left on them yet.

 

What brand of roof rack do you have? I didn't think there was a company that made any that fit the Gs. thx

 

its a Thule, i built it on Thule's site...

 

pads do start about 10mm, so 6mm is about 60% remaining.. no need to change yet i recomend pads and machining rotors starting at about 3mm remaining.

 

I would resurface the rotors, not new ones. You can get then turned from 15-30/rotor

 

how big of a breaker bar did you have? im not sure how to get one up in that wheel well. the bottom bolt on the torque member is really close to one of the camber adjustment arms. i could barely get even a rachet in there.

 

ill have to check the size on the bar uts been a few years since i used it but i dont recall having any problems with cramped space when changing out my rotors, just trun wheel towards myself and unbolt really with breaker bar, but ill double check soon for you.
