Listen, everyone is going to have a different opinion and bias as far as which oil is best,,,
whatever, when you get down to it, its still all oil. Lets try and keep it simple, and the most important aspect concerning your engines lubrication is the filtration... plain and simple.
Napa Gold filters are the trick and will make even a mid grade oils (valvoline) viscosity outlast even a pure high grade full synthetic, and I know first hand since I work for Southwest research that tests all engine performance products and applications.
Filtration is the key, and although some lubricants will out-perform others, to keep it simple, oil is oil,,,, and filtration is where the consumer will benefit the most.. your oil filter IMO is by a wide margin the most beneficial aspect when considering the investment.

Here's some info on filters. I'm not endorsing either since I've never used them however, starting this weekend Puralator One (orange one) will be the filter of choice for my 07 Yamaha FZ1. Not sure if one fits the G, if it does, then I switching that as well. So much for more expensive = better product. IMO @ $3.81 you cant beat the WM ST filters. You decide

Some bad info their, just because an oil is a certain group, does not mean it can be used longer. Castrol Edge has a lot of additive this oil is mostly Group III. A reason Castol edge was made for, is for extending drain intervals. It has lots of additive(TBN). TBN is not the only thing for long intervals, you need to make sure wear levels are low and there still is a good amount of TBN.
Oil weather its Group over 9000 or group III does not mean one will run better then the other.
If you want to run extended intervals get a UOA with TBN count.
