A testament to Plastidip?

Many have asked how well plastidip holds up to the environment.

The answer is, quite well!

Over the course of 12 full months and roughly 19k miles:
- It has withstood torrential rains at freeway speeds
- Random passes from a random orbital buffer (except there are spots where wax/polish has remained)
- Withstood rock chips from driving on construction roads and/or behind work trucks (wish the paint and windshield was this robust)

and...

- A front-end smash into another car , the grille broke into several pieces with PD still on it, no scratches or nicks.

The grille, bumper, headlamps, hood and both fenders will need replacing. I don't know what else is damaged in the engine bay as i can't even get the hood latch to pop. Radiator seems fine. The car is idling/cruising a bit louder, which leads me to think the Injen SRI has been damaged somewhat as well. Most of the damage was above the license plate line (think of nose-diving under the car in front).

Sad times

On the upside, everyone is okay. The hit itself couldn't have been more than 30mph... the speed we were all going before things came to an abrupt stop. Slammed the brakes, tires slid, ABS kicked-in and bam. It just felt like slow-motion.

Getting it repaired today. How long do repairs typically take? A week, two? I contemplated doing the 2010+ conversion, but that's a no-go due to insurance and the fact that 2010+ doesn't have AFS.

using plastidip as a basecoat is like building a house on sand foundation.

+1 on being a great base coat

the saddest part is that a lot of people on here dont appreciate the versatility and ruggedness of PlastiDip

to any PD haters - if you dont like the color matte black then say so...dont hate on PlastiDip haha you can always throw on some clearcoat if you dont like matte

I have a full matte black car, its not that I hate it. Spend the FEW extra dollars on real paint and get it done right.

Ive seen the plastidip g35 in person before and it looked like complete **** in person, even on the smooth parts.

i mean only minimal use is acceptable IMO like trim/grille...doing wheels as well is a stretch but i did that as well. i think the main idea is that you can put it on whatever and paint over it but then take it off the next day if you dont like it...so if you like changing colors a lot then its way cheaper than getting it powdercoated every few weeks lol

I would get the 2010+ front end conversion!! Find a way to go around it or work it out with the body shop!

First of all, im very sorry to hear about the accident but glad that everyone is fine. Secondly, ppl please dont make this a plastidip argument thread, the OP just stated the +'s of PD and they are all true and if you dont appreciate then simply look elsewhere.

Now like salvador said its very easy to get anything you want done through the insurance. Once the insurance estimates the repairs and tells you the amount tell em you want a private party estimate.

Just go to a good reputable body shop and have em estimate for for both years and they should be able to work with you in the little adjustment needed to get you the conversion, there wont be a massive difference in price between the two, the AFS should not be a big deal imo but if you MUST have it then stay with 07-09.
