Fill up frequency question
Guys- Had my 08 lakeshore slate G35x for two weeks now and am in love with the car. Really enjoy this site, too. Lots of great info and ideas. I've seen a bunch of threads on the gas folks use but I have a slightly different question. Is there any train of thought on when to fill up your G? Is it better to burn the tank to almost empty and then fill up or is it better to keep the tank filled? Does it matter at all?

you should never run a tank dry, I haven't really looked into on these cars in particular and how the pump is positioned in tank, but if you run it low enough that the pump doesn't pick up fuel and sucks in air you over work the pump and fuel also lubricates the pump so if you run dry the pump is on with no lube so that's not good either

I fill it when the low fuel warning comes on, or sooner if the price of gas drops enough to entice me to pull in for a fill up.
There is still 10 litres of fuel when the low fuel warning comes on so your fuel pump is still 'lubed and cooled' and you're not getting into the 'dirty' fuel (if there is any) either.
In the winter I keep it about 1/2 in case of emergency. Don't want to be stranded out in the cold.

As has been mentioned, you're perfectly fine anywhere within the normal range of your fuel gauge, you'd most likely get freaked out by being below E and fill it up before you'd risk any kind of problems anyway. That being said, I have run my car COMPLETELY out of gas on at least three or four occasions and suffered zero effects (I do only use quality gas from respectable stations though). If you are storing the vehicle, you'll want your tank as full as possible to minimize condensation. If you are truly worried about fuel economy, you're actually better off keeping your tank below 1/2 way (saves weight) and just filling up twice as often.
More than likely though, you're just over-thinking the whole matter. Relax . . . and enjoy your G!
