High Mileage 2nd Gens? What are you at??

After reading around the forums, i'd like to see what mileage people are at with these cars and how they are holding up.

My car is going to turn 40k this friday when I drive home. I bought it with 30k last april lol...

But i am slightly concerned. I feel like these cars arent going to make it to 200k as easily as the first gen cars are. It is almost like they are tuned a little more finely (what with high revs and what not) and just aren't as able to do the higher miles.

I mean, look at Anton and Aeson. They both got new engines before 90k miles. That concerns me slightly...

Anyone else feel the same way?? Anyone got over 100k miles and not drive their car under 3k rpms all day??

i have seen one member here a while back with over 100k and required NO extra work other than regualr maintaince. i myself am at 60k with no issues what so ever and can easily see this car getting to 130k+ without any major repairs, plus being MTs helps a lot since you wont have any tranny issues unless you had bad synchros to start with or if youre not as good of a stick driver.

Much like 1st gen and almost every other brand there are always cases of lemon cars and bad luck where you will have owners with the worst experience with the cars at low miles while others get a lot more...

Well, I am on a new transmission, so hopefully that helps. I just want to see more high mileage cars.

Ehhh . . .I think you might be worrying too much. Perhaps your sample is just too small.
I'm right behind kool with 56K miles and I haven't got the slightest concern about my motor. I did have the tranny swapped at 49K for synchro issues, but if truth be told, that's mostly because I had warranty to cover it for free. Even if I didn't though, I would still have been able to keep driving it for many, many miles further without much trouble; just re-adjust to the idiosyncrasy and get on with it. I expect my car to last well past the 150k miles that I plan to keep it for. I could keep it even further, but I'm just pretty sure there will be newer stuff that will be too cool to pass up by then.

...and NO, there's barely a day that I drive it that I'm not getting into the upper rpms; it just feels too good to pass up.

btw, Original owner!

I'm about to hit 70k and knock on wood I haven't had any engine issues... have had cosmetic as most of you have too... the only major issue I had was with the car staying in D mode and Infiniti did not cover that under powertrain but they fixed it anyway at no cost... I addressed transmission issues to infiniti about 2 to 3 times about the 2nd to 3rd shift was not smooth when driving slightly aggressively... but they did not find anything wrong with it so I decided to just calm down a little. I personally am pushing to keep this car for the next two years and if you guys haven't already noticed I like all my maintenance to be on time... so with that said I don't think I will running into anything major. Everytime you start worrying about your car running into issues be grateful that you do not own a bmw lol. I took my mothers 6 series in every two weeks with electrical issues or issues that bmw could not duplicate. I drove three 335i's , two convertible 328i, one brand new 740i, and an x5... I had fun with the loaners but did not enjoy seeing the shady service advisor I had to deal with. It hasn't been long enough anyway to see high mileage g's just wait another year or two and check out autotrader and you will be able to distinguish better regarding this topic. ENJOY YOUR G!

I just purchased my 08 G35x at the end of September with 87k miles and im already at 89k miles. the car feels as if it was still brand new! (dont want to jinx it or anything). but it shifts very smoothly, no weird noises, leaks or problems. Just some maintenance, already changed to full synthetic oil, changed air filters (cabin and intake filters) and about to flush all other fluids. Previous owner was an old guy so i think (and hoping) he never raced it or ever revved the engine because it is still going strong. I am hoping to get it to reach 200k miles , maybe more with on time maintenance done by me! Your car is still practically new and dont think you have to worry.

The VQ motors are pretty durable, I do not foresee any major problems with it in the higher mileage range. I think the two that had problems necessitating a new motor were unusual. As long as you maintain it, it will easily outlast the first gen motors imo. I have 87,000 miles on mine right now and it runs perfect. Doesn't burn any oil, doesn't hesitate, mpg is still very good, and still feels as powerful as it did when it was new. And I do NOT drive gently, I hit 7k+ rpms at least once every day. Still no oil consumption or any motor issues to speak of. I expect it to hit 200k easily with just normal maintenance work in between.

This concerns me now, if people are changing engines at 90k hmm, maybe its a small percentage of engines having faults. Please state if you are original owner or not.

Good to see people are having no issues with their cars. Lets just keep this bad boy updated. Mine seems to be running well.
