Trip Advice

Okay guys I'm taking a trip to TN with the wife for new years. Right now my back tires are getting closer to their wear bars and my front are ofcourse in really good shape. If I just rotate my tires now... if I encounter snow on our trip do you think I will make it thru okay? I know you normally want you better tread tires up front Let me know what you guys think. I've been looking for new tires, but I rather buy 4 new tires instead of two and cash is getting tight. Info below...

Tires: Khumo ASX (currently on)

Yep I'm RWD too.

Tread in the rear.

And honestly, this should be a no brainer. Cash may be getting tight, but we all know what's more important than being low on funds - and that's the safety of your family. Buy all four and be done with it.

I think you are totally wrong with that assumption.

If this is your only option, ALWAYS put the tires with the most tread on the REAR.

Why not purchase a pair of new tires,?

edit: had that backwards

If all your rims are the same size then put the front tires to the back and the back to the front. The rear tires are going to wear out faster then the front due to RWD. If you switch them youll be find

Dont have to do that. Long burn out will do the job. But he wants to get more life out of the tires so he needs to move everything around

LOL, that's exactly what I did when my wife's car needed new front tires, but the rears had about 20% left. I just popped her rears onto my car and attended an open skidpad drift day at Thunderhill. The ol' G35's a bit heavy for drifting, but damn she'll light them tires up when you aren't worried about treadlife. By noon, I had solved my dilemma of whether or not I needed a full replacement set for her. MANY smiles per gallon.

Always!

I may risk a speeding ticket now and then

. . . But if you get popped for "Exhibition of Speed" or a "Reckless Driving", it's no simple infraction; that's a misdemeanor right there. (not to mention the potential danger to those you share the road with)

Well good for you, not only did you decide to buy some new tires, but some expensive one at that. Funds must not have been as tight as you thought lol. Good tires!
