my friend dropped the pan on his 05 G and measured around 5qts... best way is to measure what comes out and refill with same amount and then check level with proper procedure.

Mine's an '06 as well. I didn't measure what came out. Rookie move. I did fill it gradually and warm it up and continue until it measured full. I think I only put 5 or 6 in.

Its weird if I shift around 3 it still takes up to 4k to drop in gear but if I mash on it it shift right away

I bought the transgo kit and took it to a shop and I ended backing out because I didn't realize that they will be drilling through the valve body to make the kit fit. This scared me as it was irreversible and I wasn't sure whether I would like the way it drove afterwards for everyday driving(I commuted 25 miles to work). I plan on getting the grounding kit soon though.

All the drilling will be doing is opening already existing holes in the VB. It's to allow a bit more fluid flow. Like going from a 7/64 hole to a 1/8 hole. It does seem scary at first, but again, I did this work with a buddy and had no problems at all. The commute would be fine. Normal driving doesn't reveal the harsh shifting. It's when you get on it that it shifts firm. Just for info, the 1-2 shift still lags for a moment. It's designed to do that because of the low gearing. I'm on a 3.5VLSD and a shift kit, so it's that much more fun!
