Well, it certainly appears that there's lots of pad thickness left, but I'm not liking the grease buildup along the edge of the pad there. If there's a squeal, it makes me wonder if some traveled onto the rotor and glazed the face of the pads. Hard to tell from just a single picture and no history though.

Grease on something that requires friction to work properly

unless im missing something i dont see any grease on the rotor's brake sweeping area, i just see grease on the back of the pad which is very normal and used to avoid squealing noises, perhaps adding a light fresh layer of it behind the pad on the shims would help alleviate the issue

I totally agree kool. There is no conclusive indication from that picture, and grease on any rotor may actually be the furthest from the cause of the squeaking. I merely raised the question based on how much residue was in close proximity to the edge of the pad. If it never got to the rotor and/or pad face, then it's a non issue. I think there was just some surprise generated by his question about whether grease on a rotor was bad. Originally Posted by kool_yaar

Hopefully his resolution is a simple one.
I touched the rotor it self.... No grease as for the squeaking whole holding down the brake... still on and off

How loud is the squeal? I have an 07 with the sports package, and my car's brakes sometimes squeal very lightly from time to time, especially in close quarters like drive thru windows or pulling out of a tight parking space. I brought this up with my mechanic and he said that is most likely brake dust buildup.
Its feint but noticeable... I just wanted to make sure the pads were good so it doesn't eat into the rotors. I have 23k on the rotor but it still looks fresh.... I guess oem pads last a while??

the inside pads usually wear a bit more, make sure you check those. Also make sure they're not wearing at an angle...
