G25 loaner: first impressions

G25 loaner: first impressions
It's got a great set of brakes. That's the best thing I have to say about it. Some of the fit and finish on the inside doesn't seem as good as our V36 sedans. For example, the leather on the door where your elbow sits is not as soft and cushy. The turn ***** for the seat warmers look a little cheap and are fragile and the cover around the shift **** is easily scratched by the lightest touch. My biggest beef about the car is the engine. It's pumping out 218hp and while it has enough to get out of it's own way it certainly does not envoke "inspired" driving when I'm behind the wheel. One of Infiniti's staples in the market has been performance and this car is certainly lacking that. Does anyone know who the target market for this car was or what other manufacturer's models they were trying to compete with? This car has me shaking my head

IS 250 and folks moving up from Camrys, Accords, Fusions, etc that want the look of an upscale sedan at a lower cost or those that want the look and better refinement but also want a few extra mpgs. I doubt anyone that's owned our G35s or G37s would want one. I know I wouldn't ever consider it (unless they really bump the mpgs up in the high 30s and gas gets over 6 bucks a gallon, and I simultaneously decide I hate driving fun cars)
Seriously, you won't see many of these w/ the current price & performance. It gets about 10% better mpg, has about 25% less performance, and only costs about 10% less. Just not enough of a mpg boost to justify the lack of power compared to the 37. If the price difference was more in line w/ the Lexus IS line then you'd see more 25s IMO.

The current G sedan was designed to support the weight of the larger V6 therefore it is lugging around additional reinforcement in the front of the frame. The extra weight becomes useless with the smaller engine hence the lack of additional mpg gains over 10%. This is a common problem with midsize sedans. That's why Hyundai chose to design the Sonata for 4 cylinders and just slapped a turbo on for additional power.

All good points, but I think blnewt said it best concerning the mpg vs power. The types of people that would frequent a website entirely about their cars would most likely never buy a G25.
Even people who are coming from "lesser" cars (my last car was a 2000 Accord MT modded) wouldnt want to be seen driving the 25 since its so clearly a watered down 35/37 and would probably be laughed at unless it was modded enough to blow the doors off the 35. And if you dropped enough $$ into a G25 to make it faster than a G35/37 then you're a complete moron
EDIT: OP, what shady dealership is this that loans you a G25 while they have your 35!?!? How rude

I wouldn't spend the money on it, but I know a lot of people that love the looks of the car and don't really care for the power that the G37 puts out (older people 60+).
Now if they would have came out with a smaller version car, with a TURBO and kept it RWD then I would say OK let's do this! Then again though when it comes down to it, it's what you like and what you prefer.

If the G25 came in a manual and priced just a tad lower, i'd buy one. I come from the camp of driving slow cars fast... i just love hearing the engine roar for extended periods of time before i get myself in trouble.
Which is what makes the FR-S/BR-Z so enticing to me, only if it had two more doors. :\
