How much oil do you have to send for an analysis? And what is the cost? I would love to start doing this now and for my future vehicles.

To the OP, I can't really follow the results but unless I'm wrong, you had your oil tested four times, twice at 6K, once at 10k and once at 5k. Is that right? Also, what oil/oils were you running. I'm mostly curious as to whether the 10k oci had acceptable results and what oil you used. I'm using Mobil 1 EP 5w30 and a Fram Xtended Guard filter with 7,500 mile intervals as that interval works well with tire rotation for me. Thanks for any info.

The OP had tests done at 52, 61, 79k and again at 175k. Basically, the first row shows how long between oil changes, the second row shows mileage on the engine.

The 10k run was Amsoil ASL 5W-30 if I recall and it was perfectly fine to run it that long. Could have ran it longer actually. If you want to see if you can extend your interval using Mobil 1 EP send in your UOA and ask for a TBN reading which is $10 extra. You should be able to run 7500k mile intervals with regular M1 no problem. EP is really good for 10k-15k intervals.

Good oil but I would highly recommend a better filter since it's so important. K&N, Mobil 1 are all I use, but I've heard Wix are also a good choice, Fram not so much

Yep, i've ran UOA and TBNs on the various Nissan's i've owned over the past decade -- it's great knowing how well things are working in that aspect of the car's life. Most i've ever done was on my Maxima at 12k or so and the oil was still good.

Currently i've been exclusive on the M1 EP oil and filters, oil results are still coming out good and TBN's have been good enough that pushing to 10k would not be an issue. However... (below)

Ditto on the Mobil 1 stuff. But, i seem to be having oil evaporation (burning?) issues. On every 7+k mile interval, i've had to add half a quart or so of add-on oil, which is considered normal, but have not been able to drain more than 5 quarts come oil change time (like i used to earlier on in the cars life.)

Again, results are coming out okay. TBN is also okay, but i've only averaged draining out between 3.75-4.25 quarts of oil these days.

Fram filter? Horrible choice, Wix at the minimum, amsoil or k&n if you feeling rich.

I use a napa (wix) myself

I know everyone thinks of Fram as the old orange paper filter. Check out this youtube video showing what's in an extended guard (aka Ultra). It's like Toyota builds a base Scion but also builds a Lexus LS460. I get this filter at Walmart when I get the 5-qt Mobil 1 EP

^^ I've seen pics of them cut open before and they are definitely worthy of being considered 'upper tier'. You are right though, most folks have a very negative impression of Fram based on their classic cheap orange filters.
