Umm I've been doing some research on this site and i think it's something with TCM module or something with a ground (The AT check is on but no check engine). It seems to have almost the same symptoms as this one. Theres no jerk or anything like that, just revs a little high but engage 2nd smoothly...

Salt water is supposed to have more corrosion and rust... but then again, all water does... so its really hard to tell. I guess only other way is if you find dried up salt deposits under the hood or anywhere else in the car that the water may dry out...

Check in the spare tire compartment for salt deposits

It's your decision at the end of the day but like everyone here has said and not to beat an already dead horse, I personally would just walk away. Water damage is water damage, PERIOD be it salt or fresh water. There are too many unknowns that could potentially pop up down the road and you really could end up pouring more money into this car just to keep it running than what it's worth.

If you are going to keep it, I would have this car inspected with a very fine tooth comb and I do mean checked from top to bottom. If that undercarriage was completely submerged at all in water, it would behoove you to have a mechanic take the engine block and tranny apart to check for signs of corrosion and rust as well as checking the suspension areas also. Not only do you have to worry about corrosion and rust but also mold growing as well, which is more of a concern with me than rust and corrosion is because that poses a bigger health problem.

Just my $.02 worth
