So I hit a pothole, blew a hole in the sidewall of a Continental DWS. All of them are at 8/32" depth. I know tires are recommended to be replaced in pairs (and sometimes in 4's with AWD), but I didn't think the G35x was that sensitive between front/back.

Replace 1 or a pair in this case?

i'd just replace 1 if they are at 8/32"- that's a ton of tread left.

Yes, by all means, you should only have to replace the one tire. The tread depth when new is only 10/32", so you are talking about 1/32" difference in radius. Heck, a little variation in tire pressure can cause that much difference even with tires that are identical in tread depth. If you are concerned about it though, I would place the new tire in the front and make the rears the same size over making the fronts the same size. I think the greater concern you should have is for both your wheel (is it bent???) and your wheel bearing (the bearings on our G's are relatively soft and prone to indents from a sharp impact such as you describe. Keep an eye out for any kind of vibration or shimmy afterwards.

I'm sorry, but how does this even apply to the OP's question?

He needs a new tire NOW! He's asking if he should just get one or get a pair; he can't wait until anything wears down to 1/4".

I was planning on running the new tire up front since it's AWD and mostly rear biased, it should have very little effect on the operation. I've had a bad wheel bearing before and it definitely made some noise. I might take the car in for an alignment and inspection as well.

Just wanted to verify that one uber slightly taller tire wouldn't really mess with the AWD.

Just about to order and want to confirm no one sees an issue with the tread and the AWD?

Thanks for the input!

10/32 and 8/32 doesn't seem too bad....shouldn't be an issue. I had a blow out at 4/32 and was **** outta luck.... Got all 4 replaced.
