Car started to hesitate this morning.

Drove about 30 miles this morning on my way to work and stopped for some coffee. After getting my coffee I started the car and drove to a traffic light. I sat there for 20 secs and proceeded to go through the light and suddenly the car started shuddering/hesitating as soon as I gave it gas at low RPMs (1500 to 2500ish). At the same time my engine light came on.

Immediately I pulled over and I am bringing it to a shop close to my work

Don't have the code yet, but here is a couple things I know about the car. Has 136k miles, under 1/4 tank of fuel, I have a loose CAT core I've been meaning to replace and I'm probably 2500 miles past dues on an oil change.

Are you saying you now know it was an overheat code, or are you just guessing what it MIGHT have been?

I was wondering if it might be that the cat core shifted and blocked the exhaust flow substantially. That will shut 'er down in a hurry!

SO was that a P0217 ??

Did you observe that your engine was indeed overheated? Is there enough coolant and oil in the engine?

Oil was good, but fluid was low and we found the upper and lower radiator hoses were both leaking. I changed out the top one about a year ago so that was unexpected. The bottom was actually worse are coolant was leaking pretty bad.

Replaced the hoses, clamps and added more coolant and water. Good to go now.

Hopefully there was no collateral damage. I certainly wouldn't make a habit of letting coolant get so low that you overheat like that; surely the quickest way to a new engine.

I had a small coolant leak (like pinhole sized) that the dealer said was not worthy of replacing. I've never had the operating temperature gauge of my G go above around half though. I'll have to stay aware though because that was almost 2 years ago. I'm guessing since you had this problem, it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

So when the car throws a code it creates digital snapshot of temps and other functions. According to the snapshot the fluid got up to 280F. The limp mode saves you from doing damage to the car so it was a good thing I shut it down right away to make things worse.

As oil temps run higher than coolant temps, I would also suggest you do an oil change asap, as you likely cooked the oil too.
