Tires

I have a 08 g35 sport. 18" staggered wheel option. Rear is 18x8.5 stock size 245/45/18 have any of you gone with a 265/40/18? It's the closest OD to the 225/50/18 front tire.

Thanks.

You might be overthinking things. I would expect that the electronics are calibrated for the stock tire sizes, so trying to get an exact match between front and rear could be wasted effort. The discrepancy between front and rear on stock staggered sizes is minimal anyway; like less than uneven tread wear between front and rear could cause. Also, consider that if you "pinch" a wider rear tire onto those relatively narrow 8.5" rear wheels, you will likely have a greater rolling diameter than if they were fitted onto a properly sized wheel (for that tread width).

When I was looking into that size it said recommended rim width 9"-10.5 I believe. So I'm ( only lading. .5") but I haven't bought them yet. This is why I was asking if anybody has done it.

Oh I'm sure people have done it. I know people report using even a 275 width tire on the stock rears. It is wrong though, and there is really nothing other than looks to be gained by it. Also, just so you know, it is not really JUST .5" out of range, as the true intended wheel width for a 265 width tire to hold its specified size is actually a 9.5" wheel, so even a 9" wheel is already pinching the tread.

What exactly is it you are looking for from the wider sizing, performance or simply looks?

Specifically norhing really figured since I need new back tires why not try to go a little wider. I guess to get better handling and traction. I don't have a issue going with stock size but you know if it's not going to cause major issues and look completly ridiculous why not ya know. But if it'll bulge my sidewalls out and look like have a set of drag slicks on it then I won't do it lol.

No, I don't think it would be that bad, but it definitely will not hold its specified outer rolling diameter (will be taller), so your efforts to dial it in exactly to the fronts will be lost. Also, the tread wear on a pinched tire will suffer compared to a properly sized tire on the same wheel.

I hear ya. Yea I think it's about 12 revolution per mile difference between the 2 sizes. Ether way I'll probably just not attempt it and just stay with stock size. I have a little time left on the rears if I keep my foot out of it lol.

You could always upgrade to some wider wheels too (but that's $$).
