Dead alternator
Dead alternator
I guess my power steering leak killed it, slow leak for a while , major leak after a couple repair attempts. Disturbing part, that nice little battery thing on the gauge cluster never came on. Car died on the freeway off ramp with my wife in it. Fun part, getting it back into neutral for a quick tow off the road, that stupid little cover panel can't be popped off with a key.
Got the car car towed home , charged the battery and duplicated the result in my driveway. No battery light, and charges at 13V , not enough to sustain running (especially with the AC running ) but enough to keep the lidiot light from coming on .
Hopefully i I will have a reliable car soon. Heater hoses are also on the way

There is a tool in the trunk to pop that little trim cover off for the neutral release.
Are you certain the battery light on the dash is functioning at all? Does it turn on during a lamp test?

I believe they want you to pry it with the back side of the 10mm wrench, please try it. I did when I got the toe hook out.

That's weird. I've never heard of a car dying with 13v alternator output. Let us know what happens when you replace it.
Been driving without issue for a few weeks now, current voltage is 14.2 volts as required.
My voltage sits right at 13v when I've been driving for a while. When I first start it up it goes to 14.2v and after about 5 minutes drops down to 13v.
Edit: I threw the serpentine belt off my Jeep a few years back due to a fried tensioner pully, it kept running long enough to get to a friends house (about 3 miles), was down to around 11.5v at that point, and that was with the air/heat on full blast.
