2007 g35x wont shift gears, brake wont move
Car has 84k miles. I was trying to start up my car after getting gas, and i noticed that the brake wouldn't go down when i pressed on it to turn it on. When I hit the start button, the car would light up with an absence of noise from the engine, with all of the dashboard lights lit up. Since the brake wont press down, I'm unable to shift into any gear, with the shifter button not even pressing down. Car was working just fine before this, I had just bought it two weeks ago. It is currently stuck at a gas pump. What is the most likely issues? Thank you.
Update, car working again after waiting, breaks squeak
I went back to check on my car and to my surprise it started right up and I was able to drive out of there. On the way home I noticed a squeaking sound when i braked. Is this indicitive of another problem soon to come? I am sure the squeaking came from the the problem before, the car never squeaked before today.
You should always be able to press on the brakes unless you have hydraulically locked the pedal by pumping it repeated times.
If it locked up but NOT from repeated pumping of the brakes it might have something physically obstructing the pedal as Gee suggested, look for things wedged up behind the pedal like your floor mats, etc.
As for the squealing while braking. There are these metal tabs on the brake pads that are literally called BRAKE SQUEALERS, when the pad is worn down enough then the squealers are touching the rotors, this is an audible reminder that the brakes need to be replaced.
I strongly suggest you do NOT do what I do and cut off the squealers when they start to make noise and drive your car for another 10k miles. Be better than me...
