Headlight not working

2008 G35

My driver's side headlight quit working the other night. Neither high beam nor low beam works. I bought replacement bulbs - no fix. Rec'd a replacement ballast - no fix. I have not tried to swap the working pieces from the passenger side yet but may have to try that.

Is there a fuse or relay for EACH side ? If there is, it must be in the large, buried IPDM, yes ? What I can see from the manual is there is just a high-beam or low-beam relay. I tried probing the vehicle connector (gray) for 12v but my probe seem to be too large. I got no reading but I can't say it means anything in my case. I am not / will not be checking for voltage on the output side of the ballast. 😂

Thanks in advance

Easy stuff first. Swap the working bulb. Swap the ballast. Check fuses.

Are there LEFT and RIGHT fuses ? Nothing I've found indicates there is, just HIGH and LOW beam fuses/relays. I'm leaning towards this mystery fuse... I tried the "old" bulb as well as a new bulb - tried the "old" bulb with the new ballast, actually. I replaced the bulb yesterday and when that didn't work, I ordered a ballast from Amazon and it was delivered the next day. Yeah, the ballast could be bad even though it's new, though the odds are lower.

The "LO" (LH, 15a) fuse was blown. I replaced it, kept the new ballast and new bulb, and it's working. Still need to put everything back together (and mount the ballast) in the wheel well and then replace the RH bulb since the color appears different.

Why did the fuse blow ? I will cross my fingers and say the ballast failed and caused the fuse to blow !

Thank you !

Get an aftermarket HID kit off Amazon for like $35 bucks. Stop wasting time with crappy old OEM ballasts.

I was able to ****** a good LED bulb set off of Amazon for $60 (ASIN: B0CBJW69WR) and they work off of the OEM ballast. They stopped selling them because the D2S system is really old and those OEM HID bulbs are worse than your cell phone camera light!
I did test these, search this on amazon: ASIN: B0CJ5B1Q3H They plug into your ballast and give you plenty of light. It's tough to find good LED conversion kit for this car under $100 but once you convert, you won't have to remove 1/4 of the car to replace the bulb.
