Boolean search not available
Boolean search not available
Mods, how come some users have the "Search Type" option on the search page that allows "Boolean" searches but others don't have this option at all? I would really like to be able to use a boolean string search.
User sandman pointed this out to me in another thread. Here's what sandman gets:

Here's what I get:

Hope you can help.
Thanks
Curt

Here's what I tried:
Search "filter" returns 317 threads.
Search "tube" returns 288 threads.
Search "filter tube" returns 319 threads.
I want to see only threads with both "filter" and "tube" in them
Search "filter and tube" returns 319 threads, the same as without the "and". I would expect to see a count much less than 288.
Any help is appreciated.

The only suggestion I have is to narrow it down using the "search in forums" area.
IE: If you search for filter tube in the "intake an exhaust forum", it returns 25 threads.
You can select multiple forums.
I have seen better search engines.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm still hoping that one of the site owners will see this and figure out why some users can choose to use boolean searches and other users can't. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Now, I'm guessing I can use AND and OR. Any chance we could get a sticky primer for all the options (is there a NOT) and some examples?
