google motordyne. get the 5/16th spacer and mrev2 if you could. i didnt want to splurge that much since the baby is on the way so i got a non revup lower plenum. the spacer adds about 11-15hp, and the manifold the same. best bang for the buck there, minus nitrous of course.

Would a difference in hp of 15-25hp be that apparent (unless you're on the track) to warrant investments >$100? Just asking.

I think so but it comes down to what is it worth to you. I used to have a Toyota Matrix that I heavily modded. A friend thought it was foolish to put money into a car. He collected surfboards and paid BIG money for some of them. I think that's foolish.

Modding isn't smart from a financial perspective. I look at it as a hobby.

You'll feel a 25HP difference. I added an OEM Z-Tube and K&N Filter and could feel the difference at 3500+ RPMs. Nothing crazy, but a nice boost, and that's not even close to a 25HP add.

Two part answer. First, you're not going to get a 15-25HP jump from $100-ish in mods. For $100-ish, get the Z-Tube. Second, if you focus on the best-bang-for-your-buck mods (Z-Tube, plenum spacer, etc.), you could add 15-25HP easily, but you're talking at least $300+ in mods, not $100-ish (spacer is around $200).

And like SCXR said, it all depends on what you want. Pure speed? Better sound (engine/exhaust, not audio)? Better handling? Appearance? All of these will have their own "best" scenario price-wise. Personally, I'm doing a mixture of speed and sound (adding a plenum spacer and a muffler), followed later on by some handling (new wheels/tires). The beauty of the G is there are lots of options out there to mod your car just the way you want it.

intake, plenum spacer, headers, high flow cats/test pipes, cat back exhaust

you'll notice the difference if you do all those...

and a good tune on top of that should increase around 15-20 more

Stillen intake with Z tube (I would wrap with heat shield tape also) ~$240 +5hp
Motordyne 1/2" spacer with Iso thermal upgrade ~ $300 +12hp
DC Headers ~$500 + 11hp
Kinetix, Fast Intentions or Berk HFC's ~$400-600 +8hp
Stillen dual/Borla cat-back exhaust ~$750-950 +15hp

These are estimates and are the gains people see over STOCK.

When combining all these mods you will not see +51 HP...although with a proper tune you might see something close to that at the crank.

You can find other things out there as well but you will pay...

4.083 or 3.9 final drive will be the only n/a mod that will make your car significantly faster. Bolt ons and tune are nice but it wasnt untill I did the 4.0 gears that I was able to hang with and beat quicker cars such as e46 m3s and sti's. read up on gears on my350z.com

Exhaust can get crazy expensive, especially if you're replacing the cats. But you get lots of improvement for those dollars. Just like a person, a car has to breathe better to go faster, and that means inhaling and exhaling.
