Big power steering leak, please help asap...:(

Ok, so being dumped is not always FTW, this morning i noticed a small leak coming from under my car, saw PS was low, had to drive to LA and now its horrible

The fluid is coming our of the boot on the drivers side. Can anyone give me an idea how hard this would be to replace and or how much, i need it fixed like tomorrow. here's a pic

I'm not to familiar with the steering components so im not sure if i could just change the arm or the entire piece the arm goes into.

the clamps that hold the boots on are very cheesy.

clean the area up nice with brake clean and try a worm gear clamp.

I was going to suggest cleaning it all up, also double check all the lines that nore are cracked, cut or anything. Then refill and look under that car to see where it is leaking, once you drive it the mess is everywhere.

...i agree with what the others said. Its leaking from the bellow. You can try and clean it up & try a new clamp but you may end up needing to replace the p/s rack assy.

not on G's, moreso on Lexus but everytime Ive seen one repaired, it always ends up needing the rack.

power steering racks on these cars are pretty easy.

rust makes it tough getting the u-joint apart from the steering shaft. when apart, make sure the steering wheel/column cannot turn. if it does, bad things will happen.

make a note on the position of the tie rods, so when it goes back together you will be as close to center as possible.

alignment ASAP it will be very far off.

the best bet would be to break it down and see exactly what the problem is. if it is replacing a single component like a o-ring, it may not be that expensive.

if you need to replace the entire gear assembly, it is $864

no idea on how hard it is to replace. but if this is your daily, than take it to a shop. i doubt if many people have had to replace this on their G or 350Z

That sucks Shane. Out of curiosity, did you notice the event that caused the leak? Or did it just happen out of nowhere?

nothing in particular that i can think of
i just noticed it tuesday morning, then it got really bad later that day.

If i had to guess i'd say it's a combination of being so low, and possibly somethings hitting it, also maybe when whatever i hit on the free hit that as well and fvcked up up and it just didn't really leak till the other day...who knows!
