Rattle at Startup

I Have a 2006 Sedan, and for as long as i've had the car (since it was new) there is a rattling sound whenever i start up the engine and begin to drive. It ALWAYS happens when i start it up when the engine when it is fully cooled, after i back out, put it in drive, then start to move, then comes the rattle. It sounds like its coming form under the car or engine somewhere. It lasts less than a second. Do any of you have this problem or know what it is?

Join the club, sounds like knocking on start up. Pretty common for us, mileage?

You hear it after you start driving right? it sounds like a metal pan rattling for about a second.

Here is the TSB information from Nissan this was originally discovered on the maxmia/altima VQ35 engines but is also a known cause on the 350Z/G35.

Hope this helps

Thanks Faiz, but thats not the sound. it only happens after i put it in drive and start to move. it sounds like a metal pan expanding or something. Rattling is just the only word i can think of to describe it

Could be the heat shield that is loose and rattling. You might also be hearing the chatter from the manual transmission. With the OEM flywheel you will get a small amount of rattle. With aftermarket lightened flywheel it will be much more pronounced compared to stock.

yeah I think I know what your talking about.

It happens even if your engine is warmed up already. Put it in Reverse (and back up), no sound. Put it in Drive, rattling sound appears. To me it sounds like a can with something lose inside it. Then it goes away after the first like 2-3 secs of driving.
Edit: oh I own an 06 a/t Sedan
