G35 Coupe with premium wheels and aftermarket upgraded sound system
Shaky Issue
Hey everyone. This posted issue will have a story and some photos behind it so thank you in advance if you read it and huge thanks if you have any potential solutions. My car - 2005 G35 coupe 3.5L V6 w/ premium 20" aftermarket rims.
To start, about three years ago I took my car in to firestone to have a routine oil change and to balance the tires. After this I immediately took about a 200 mile trip and left my car for a week while on vacation. Upon return I was driving back to my parents house when my rear driver side wheel snapped off the lugs (picture 1 and 2). Because of this I had to replace that rim, one more rim that had some scratches on it, and three of the four tires due to wear. The initial cause of the snap I associated with firestone not properly installing the rims on the car because I think they rotated the tires even though I did not ask them to do this. Because my G35 is a coupe the tire sizes are different front and rear which many of you know and I am sure this put additional stress on the rim until it snapped the lug and left me stranded (I could not get proof that firestone did this). After having the rims replaced I immediately noticed a shake in the car that becomes downright obnoxious above 75mph. After a few years of driving on it you can notice the shake at almost any speed but it feels more like a wobble at the lower speeds and becomes aggressive at 70mph. I have had the car in a few shops around Huntsville since then and asked mechanics to look into the problem and see if they had a fix. Eventually one mechanic convinced me to replace the following parts with the impression that it would fix the shake (if any of these are confusing I can try to explain better:
Front and rear shock/strut assembly
Front right wheel bearing
Rear right wheel bearing
Lower front control arm both
Tie rod end
After this work I was under the impression my car would be fixed. While it did drive smoother with mostly new support structure, the shake was still there and upon returning to the shop the owner made up a part name upon which I realized he had no clue what was happening. So that is where I stand today. A vibrating car with no end in sight.
To cover the obvious potential issues, I do not think it is anything with the tires or rims as they are not worn or warped. It should not be anything structural like the control arms because they were just replaced. It should not be the wheel bearings as I see no gaps and can't hear any noise or feel play when moving them. I think it is something with the engine but that is pretty baseless as I am only an engineer and not anything close to a mechanic.
To help out the readers I want to provide a quick description of the shake. There is some wobble feel when driving at lower speeds but it is almost unnoticeable. At 60mph you begin to notice the shake however it is not quite violent. At 70 mph the car is shaking quite hard and it will even effect the sound of you voice. At 75 mph the shake becomes violent vibrating every car component that isn't strapped down completely like seat belts. When going above 70 mph and removing foot from gas the shake becomes more violent from the coasting. When gas is reapplied the shake is more smooth. Coasting makes the shake much worse at high speeds.
Once again thank you for reading and thanks in advance for any help.
