Wooo I'm moving to Oahu

Let's meet up if you're out in Oahu.

Does anyone know if military members are exempt from the recon inspection?

Where are all the good engine rebuild and custom turbo shops out there?

If I decide to keep my G I am going to turbo that hoochie for real.

I'll be out there July this year.

Peace

you are not exempt from recon you still have to get the yearly safty check and recon stickers but you do not have to get hawaii plates and pay the yearly taxes

I have FL plates and py my $30ish for my FL registation and then $5 for an out of state vehicle permit. you can see the permit sicker in my sig too the blue sticker on the bottom. make sure you pick up some plates for the stickers or they will put them on your bumper. I just took the platic screw out and used double sided tape and one screw and bolt to fasten it even more.

Thumbs up

If you want to swap to HI plates, you just get a non-resident form from your unit and it's $15/year for registration. Safety inspection needs to be done yearly regardless of what state it's registered in. That's another $15-20 depending on tint.

When you get here, get a map and find Tantalus/Round Top drive

What unit are you going to?

Nope, there's the weight tax, but the non-resident form prevents you from having to pay it.

Sweet info... John I'll be in Dallas when I drive my car to the port to ship it in June. I'll hit you up when I get there. You can take me to the Airport.

So where do they make you put the recon sticker?

If I get Hawaii plates is a front plate mandatory? I rather do the tag than a front plate.

How strict are they with the recon inspection? I have 20% tint I think, no orange side markers, and a super loud exhaust. I'm trying to see if my CF hood says for off road use only or not for highway use anywhere on it.

Have you guys done a cruise out there? I'm on speedhawaii and it seems like there are a lot of haters out there. What's up with that?

^^ to pass recon you pretty much need to be legal.. its just like getting a safety check. your tint will have to come off your front plate will need to be something like 12" from the ground. i forget. forumshawaii.net has a recon section that you can check out..

Front license plates are "Mandatory" but poorly enforced.

However, not having one gives the cops a reason to pull you over whenever they want.

yeah we do cruise's try to do it once a month. the tint might be a problem unless you find a shop that will pass you. but leagal its 35% or 38% i cant remeber. and i am pretty sure the clear corners will need to be swaped but most just put the clears back after the inspection.

if the state your car is registed to only has rear plates than you can get the out of state permit.

My car is registed in FL and i dont have a font plate and never get stoped for it and i live in Waikiki one of the most heavily police populated areas on Oahu.
