What happen if Exhaust rusted!!!

I'm going to buy a used exhaust... but it looks like its rusted... i cant tell how bad it is untill he took it off from his car. I call few places... they said as long as theres no leap its all good. some places told me that all exhaust system will get rusted. its just the matter of time.

1. will all exhaust system get rusted?

I was wondering. If it did rusted... and its still in OK condition. how can i prevent from it rusted again? some places sell spray paint with "stop rusted" chemical in there.

2. does it really work?

or

3. if the exhaust system rusted.. is it bad already? not worth it to buy it?

since i know nothing about the exhaust system, might as well ask around...

4. i wonder if it has a leak or sometime in the future... can i fix it? and how much would it cost?

Hope u guys can help me out!! thx in advance!

sometimes they just get some surface rust. Once they rust completely i.e. through the piping, then you will have exhaust leaks. You can have it fixed by going to a shop and having the cut out the deteriorated part and welding in a new peice.

Why would ya.............

Your buying a used exhaust system that has rust on
it.......right? If it's stainless you'll only have rust on
the welds. Most if not all cat-back system are all
stainless......if the one your looking at is rusty look
somewhere else.......like here!

It all depends on what material it is made out of. For example if it is mild steel, it will rust for sure. Stainless steel, that depends on what kind. The two most common are 409, and 304. 409 will rust eventually, but 304 will not. Also you need to see how deep the rust is. Like everyone else said, if it is surface rust then wire wheel it out or with a sos pad. If its deep then you might be wasting your time even buying it. Reason being, you might have to go through more work then it is worth to repair it. If you are looking for a good paint, you might want to look in to this one: dupri color high heat ceramic coated silver. Buy the one that is 1200 degree. I believe the part number is DH1606. This will protect the exhaust system. Hope it works out for you.

Is there a difference when buying a used exhaust off a super charged or a turbo charged car? If so, then what do i have to look for when buying a used exhaust off a forced induced car? TIA!
