Has anybody run w/o the muffler?

Right now I've got headers and high flow cats with the stock exhaust (2003 g35 coupe)- me and my friends have some spare time next week so we wanted to screw around with my exhaust to see if we can make it meaner

We can try running true-dual straight through piping (2 1/2- 2 1/2'') anywhere, but here's the problems I see

If we run it straight back from the headers I'll loose a bit of low-end torque and will be throwingn CELs (which I don't want to do)

If we run it after the cats....

.....if we remove the y-pipe, it I've read of people reporting noticeable downlow torque losses w/o the stock y-pipe

.....if we remove the straight pipe after the y-pipe it will sound like **** because of the lack of the resonator (I've heard when people try removing the resonator and it sounds GOD AWEFUL!)

So that really just leaves removing the muffler..... has anybody tried running headers+hfc+stock ypipe+stock restonator+straight through pipping the rest of the way? if so, was it raspy, loud, etc....?

My net goal is try to see if I can make it sound meaner (i.e., louder, bassier, etc...) w/o loosing any low-end torque

it's going to be way too loud. not to mention all the drone.

i had an e-cutout with my HFCs...so basically i bypassed the muffler...it was loud as ****.

sure, it's loud and definately "mean." but it's not something you'll want to cruise with unless you have an e-cutout.

you're not going to be able to make it louder without losing power via any of those methods.

way too loud is my middle name

actually, I was searching through the arcives and Trey has done this to his sedan (as well as his wifes) and dyno'd the results - overal there was no loss anywhere (under/over 2.5k rpm) on the dyno for just removing the muffler.

I'll probably try it to see if it carries true on the coupe

I'm talking about removing the muffler and replacing the muffler area with a straight through pipe that exits through 2 tips like it does now; not running open headers, lol.

ive ran mine with out the muffler before, and yes i noticed a loss in bottom end but it felt fine up top. the sound is mean as hell when WOT and is not extremely loud when cruising. on the highway you dont realy hear the exhaust when you have it at the right rpm. try it out its easy to do.

Did it, it's bad-***, especially since i have headres and high flow cats.

I'll try to get some video clips in a while. Let's just say it's fricken loud and unbelievable

I"ll definately be getting an "l" pipe fabbed up for the rear (right now I just separated the mid-pipe and muffer; don't want to remove the muffler so we can study the bends on the pipes and tip positions)

No down-low tq loss noticeable. (however, I'm not a drag/auto-x'r, so these things arn't that important to me)....however, I do drive/shift slowly because from 1k to 2.5k it's fricken loud; from 2.5k onwards it's FRICKEN loud.

Only bad part was it took me 3hrs(!!!) to do this - the non-grounding wire nut was next to impossible to remove - took me 3hrs and a full can of WD40 before it would come off. Grrr, stupid nut.
