trying to figure out the difference.

So i have been trying to figure out for a few days now what exactly i want to get for a new filter airbox setup... Now there is the popcharger that is over 100 dollars and looks like a cone airfilter to me. Then there is a cone airfilter like these for example http://www.1motormart.com/unified/bu...e=aem&s=1&my=1

Ok so the popcharger is over 100 dollars on everythingg35.com and on the site above an AEM cone airfilter is just over 50. What is the difference i dont understand they both just look like cone airfilters to me? Can someone explain why a popcharger is called a popcharger and not just another cone airfilter?

popchargers have a "velocity stack" inside the opening of the cone filter. Most openings on popchargers are huge, like 4" or so. The velocity stack is the smooth metal ring that goes inside the filter opeing and actually speeds up the air going into the manifold. Normal cone filters will have a normal 2.5-3" opening and no velocity stack. The popchargers will genearally make more power, create a "suction" noise when accelerating and cost more. Did I miss anything anybody? I know some people refer to the metal ring as the "Venturi Ring"

I think the "suction" noise is sweet as well when you hit the accellerater, it almost sounds like a turbo spooling up. You'll like the popcharger.

coming from someone who recently purchased and installed a ztube/popcharger combo I have to say all the money I spent on it was completely worth it.

The amount of difference between the sound of my car stock in regards to it now with the ztube and popcharger is like nite and day.

I've actually had people ask me if my car was turboed because of the whistling sound it makes and it absolutely screams past 4k rpms. The hp gains to the wheels are probably going to be negligble if any but It def. picks up a little quicker @ the end of the rpm band.

Hope I was of some help.

I thought that "pop charger" was the name Jim Wolf used.

The Stillen intake has the same kind of velocity stack.

So what would be better the stillen or the popcharger is there a performance or sound difference or just by different companies?

the filters are all the same but the heat guard for the stillen one works much better however the filters wont make much of a difference
