KN&N Air Filter

Hey guys, I am a proud owner of a G35 coupe. I have a question though. I used to have a Maxima before and I had heard if I put in a KN&N air filter, it would mess up the MAF Sensor. So now I have a question for you guys who know a lot and probably have this sort of a setup. Does anyone have a KN&N filter installed in their car? If so, have you had any problems with it? Any MAD sensor issues?

Please help because the regular air filter works but gets dirty and clogged really fast. So I figured I would use something much better that can let my baby breathe better

Thanks in Advance

plenty of people here use K&N filters without any issues. the problem some people have with K&N filters is that they are oiled. i've previously used the k&n filter in my g and i found no issues with my MAF when i took it out for a cleaning (actually, it didn't need a cleaning at all. this was after 16k miles of using the k&n filter, too).

a good alternative is the amsoil nano filter, which is dry. i will be trying this next.

I know the oil is the major trouble maker, I just wanted to know if anyone has faced any issues due to the oil ended up on the MAF.
The Amsoil nano filter huh, hmm I shall see if I can find it here in Canada.

Thanks Calvin

Streamline is Superior to K&N

There is no reason to not have your cake and eat it too with oiled cotton air filters and OBDII MAF'ed vehicles.

There are pro's and con's to all types of filters and when you deduce the facts from the marketing BS, oiled cotton is a better all around performer in every way to dry, foam and to the oem paper media element filters, with the measure of performance being protection levels AND reduced restriction levels. But of course, not all filters are made the same and that is why I say the Streamline is superior in every way to the K&N. For general filter information, read this:

Air Filter Comparison

Hmm seems very interesting from what I have read. I wouldn't mind giving it a try. The only reason I asked about the oil leaking is because a MAF isn't cheap and wouldn't look forward to replacing it. That was my major concern based on thinks I read on different forums.
So what is the current price and where can I place an order for the streamline filter?

The MAF is programmed to go through a self cleaning cycle where the element is heated up to burn off contaminants and there are different paramenters set for each car. Keep in mind there are only so many manufacturers of hot wire or hot plate platinum element MAF's so they are all similar.

The Streamline is precision oiled at the factory with robotic sprayers to ensure a perfect application of oil...no over oiling from the factory and the dry packaging the Streamline comes in is your assurance it is safe to install.

You can order here:

http://www.heleneperformance.com/order.htm and then I will refund the Group Buy difference or you can just paypal the $65 to info@heleneperformance.com for Shipping to Canada.

Let me know if you have any other questions but check out my website's FAQ section:

Streamline FAQ's

Enjoy!

ok i read the FAQ's and it sounds good, but why are oiled filters better than dry ones? i dont even know why a filter would even need oil

Different flavors of ice cream. Read this for a good background on filter designs and theory of operation.

Air Filter Comparison

In a nutshell, dry media filters rely on really really small holes to trap dirt and small holes cause lots of restriction therefore many pleats are needed for proper air flow. Small holes clog up quicker thus another reason for many pleats.

Oiled cotton media filters rely on oil to catch and entrain dirt. Air can get through the oil but dirt cannot. Not as many pleats required for superior air flow and lower levels of restriction maintained as these filters load up with dirt.

Less restriction means less work and the whole idea is to make our engines perform less work to get the air it requests via the ECU.
