I just got my Injen CAI installed and it's sweet and at the same time annoying. Is it supposed to whistle or did I just mess up on the install. Without the whistle sound at higher rpms it roars like no other.

 

No whistle from mine, just roaring rumble. I just went and bought a K&N air filter for mine. I am going to try a different shape. It is longer and smaller around but it has the same surface area. I will be able to change this one without removing the bumper. We'll see what happens.

This filter seems to be fine. I went on a 30 min. drive after installing it and I felt no difference than with the original filter. If anything it ran smoother I think, but it could be my imagination. As I said on the other thread, I just put it down through the top after I attached it to the pipe, no problem. It is 7 inches long but smaller in diameter. The part # is RU-3130 I ordered it yesterday and it was here today, $44.00 at Kragen.

Only time my Injen CAI had a voice to speak of is when I floored it and rev'd it past 4K. I loved the way it sounded. Nice thing was, I never heard it if I wasn't reving and flooring it.

Are you saying you hear it when you drive the car mildly?

I've never seen a post about a CAI that doesn't make a lot of sound at full throttle at and above 4K, every user review I've ever seen tend's to mention that.

Once I installed my custom exhaust system, it drowned out the intake so I never heard it again.

My Injen whistles between 3K to 4K at moderate throttle. Is this abnormal?

That is not abnormal. It is the vortex I believe that is created inside the long tube as it hits some of the edges that are not smooth where the tubes connect. Who cares, I think it sounds bad *** with the light whistleing noise at low rpms when you give it some gas. The ROAR is awesome at high rpms. I can't wait to mate it with an exhaust!

Mine whistles every time I hit the gas hard. That's normal, it's the filter making that noise. Everybody should be getting a whistle sound.

 

Mine whistled a couple of times randomly at first, it never has since. I figured it had more to do with a pinhole somewhere in a connection between baffles or metal.

Long time ago I had an old Dodge turbo 2.2 that had a pin hole in the line on the way to the turbo and I got a crazy loud whistle.
