Crawford Headers

just got Crawford headers... I hate to say it, but the welds are far less than stellar

Anyone else with Crawford have issue with quality of welds?

Also, where the tubes merge (in the collector) there is significant overlap (one tube ending longer) - I'm hoping this is by design and not from haste.

This is not to say that I don’t recommend these headers... The reason I went with Crawford is they are the longest I could find that still allow for the use of cats... Next to true long tube headers, I don’t know of any others that are as long as Crawford... I'll know if a couple of weeks whether the gains outweigh the craftsmanship.

Let's see some pics Mike. I'll send them to my friend who does the best welding I have ever seen for his opinion.

I've had mine for 4 years now and love 'em. Pic attached. Mine are JetHot coated. If you believe you have issues, I'd call Doug at Crawford. A great and helpful guy who knows his stuff.

mine were jet hot coated too...I've spoken with Doug several times - yes he's a very nice guy and is knowledgeable. Maybe he had an apprentice weld mine?... And the merge collector issue - I'm not sure if it’s purposeful or just from haste...

Anyway, if I have time this weekend I'll post pics - car is going to Shawn’s shop tomorrow for pre dyno = then to shop Monday for cam & header install... I'm not sure I'll have time to post pics.

To see what I'm referring to close ups of the welds and the merge collector would need to be taken - just about all of them look like the pic above. Can’t tell from a distant shot like that.

there are a bunch of welders where I work... several of them weld on aluminum (not an easy task)... when I looked at the welds I was a little perplexed but I showed them to one of our welders and he wasn't impressed at all.... but he said they should hold up - just dont look pretty.

They just look rushed or sloppy. I'll try to post pics later.

Tim, you should try to bring your car out to this event Nov 8th.. you have a standing lunch/dinner invite whenever you come out next… this would be a good time. Nissan Sport will be there, I think they are going to do a write up – might be an opportunity to possibly get your car snuck in…

headers + cams + reflash. Your car is gonna fly. Good luck.

As far as the welds, you want function over beauty. I hope that's what Crawford was thinking also.

Mike,

Your not wasting anytime with your new performance mods. How long for the install?

I think with the headers and cams you will be over or close to 300 for sure on shawn's dyno your already at 270-275.

PM me how much for the headers.

these welds don't look any worse than the welds on my crawford headers - over 3 years on the car, no problems so far.
