HKS or Motordyne?

Hey guys

im in the market for an exhaust right now and i want some opinions.

I had my mind set on the HKS exhaust but now am leaning towards the motordyne ones.

Along with the exhaust, i want to get the Y pipe too.

What should i get?

which motordyne exhaust is closest to the HKS?

just there is so many motordyne to choose from, it is much more difficult to pick 1!

and preferably i want one with as little drone as possible. best sound is what i am after.

and if i would need HFC or Test Pipes as well can you recommend me some as i am not too cluey with whats the best on the market right now in regards to these parts.

cheers and thanks for your help

If you're looking for an MD exhaust that's similar to HKS...why not just get HKS?

I've seen and heard the Shockwave Dual Ti. Looks retarded without mufflers, IMHO. Also not a fan of its sound. Listen until the end of the video and decide for yourself.

The TDX Shockwave Ti sounds sick, though - IMO. Still don't like the way it looks, though.

Agreed, seems pretty obvious to get the HKS. I'm also not a fan of how the Motordyne exhaust looks...very awkward.

Performance wise, Motordyne is probably better since there isn't any solid proof, as far as I know, that the HKS exhaust does anything other than look and sound nice. That being said, I got the HKS exhaust because of aesthetics...if you're looking for a cat-back exhaust to noticeably enhance performance on these cars, you're barking up the wrong tree to begin with.

I love my Motordyne exhaust. I'm in a sedan though, but I think it sounds fantastic and solidly outperformed the previous exhaust I had which was the HR y-pipe, coupe MP and HKS axle back. I picked up 10 hp to the wheels when I dyno'd it.

I have the DC SS headers, Kinetix HFC, resonated XYZ - VQ exhaust.

Ok, I don't want to sound biased or anything but I'm seriously in love with my motordyne shocwave exhaust. I can admit that it doesnt look as "cool" as others but I actually get compliments on how it looks before I even turn on the car. When I turn it on, it always turns heads or when i'm driving people always seem to turn around and random people i don't even know ask me and compliment me on my exhaust. I can also be the first to admit that it drones a little but I don't mind one bit. As far as when I have people in the car with me, most don't even notice the drone but the ones who do I just switch int sports mode (my car's an auto) and just drive at 2.1K ish rpm and its seriously like the car is off, sure it uses a little more gas but keeps passengers happy. With music you cant even hear the drone. As far as HKS, the sounds don't compare, motordyne is much lower (i've heard them in person) and I'm not that big of a fan of hks sound. Theres not one day that I regret buying my motordyne exhaust, seriously worth the money

Hi Mark,

Yes, having a lot of options can make it harder to make a choice but it does allow better optimization to your application. And just about everybody likes or needs something different.

Single or dual. Loud to quiet. With or without cats and much more.

What are the functional objectives of getting an exhaust for your car?

What price range would you like to stay in?

What are the practical objectives and limits of what you want in an exhaust?

Some people want performance above all else.
Some want looks.
Some want sound.
Some want a good balance of everything.

If you could have an exhaust any way you wanted, what would it be?

Tony

Fast Intentions (or Rick, who was a strong advocate of FI) allegedly did some tests and said that HKS was a close second to the FI system.

Here are some independent dynos for your review.

17.5 HP and 15.5 TQ independent dyno test by KungFu Panda
http://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhau...ve-it-too.html

This is a link to UnluckyCharms dyno comparison MD Vs Fi.
The MD Gamma exhaust produced 4-5 more HP over most of the curve and substantially more TQ.

And there are many more dynos available on the forums.
