Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

so is there a y pipe out there that does not need to be modified to use with the oem exhaust system w/o losing any power due to different size?

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

as far as i know...there is not a y pipe out there that you dont have to modify if your plannin on keeping your stock system...because most of the time people get a ypipe its because they want a lil bit more power in that case they will wanna or have already upgraded there main exhaust system...if you wanna keep yer stock muffler system i would buy this y pipe and modify it like the other guy said on here..only costs like 20 bucks from summit or something like that? or or if your trying to stay quiet just get the ypipe with the greddy sp2 i believe its called? its like 400 bucks and its just the muffler system

Yes, NFC has one out now and Kinetix should have a really nice one out now as well. Both use matching input and output diameters.

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

I see 2 reducer cones on that page. Which one would I need? and if I get the pipe, would I have this cone welded on by meineke before I install the pipe, and would they know where to weld it? I also only need one cone to go on the end of the y-pipe correct? Also would like to know if this y-pipe would make my exhaust a lil louder. Sorry for all the questions. Im 75% sure i want in, but I want make sure of a couple of things

"As noted it however does NOT output into a oem pipe diameter. Yes it will bolt up,...........BUT! going from a 76.3mm pipe diameter to 65mm will create a 1/4" high ringed wall that will reduce flow and the gain's that were the purpose of spending a dime in the first place."

So what's with all these people claiming they feel more HP when they installed just a Y-pipe onto their stock exhaust? Here's a direct example for you: https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...=5&part=1&vc=1

yah anyone who plans on just upgrading there cats or y pipe and keeping the stock exhaust i would suggest to get the reducer pipe....itll help with flow but even if you plan on getting a aftermarket muffler system down the road i really wouldnt worry bout it

The question is: Does the difference in piping diameter really matter? This may be a 1-2 hp difference, if at all.

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

well, IF it is a 1 to 2 hp difference, since the total gain your most likely to see from a y-pipe alone is 5-7, that 1 to 2 is a big sacrifice since you'll likely be lowering the net gains down to 3 or 4 from 5 or 7

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

That's very true. Since the HP gain is so minimal to begin with by swapping Y-pipes, a loss of 1-2 hp is a huge loss. I'm used to turbocharged cars, so I'm still getting used to all this nonsense about dumping huge $$$ into exhaust pieces to make 5hp. My turbocharged car varied in HP by 10-20 hp just due to the weather.

As for getting a reducer and having a mufflershop weld that in, I wouldn't bother. Believe me, most mufflershops do shitty jobs and you don't want to mess with them chopping up your exhaust system and welding things in there. I've had a lot of experience with this crap and it's just not worth the time/money/trouble. Might as well just upgrade the whole exhaust system so the piping is the same size to start with.

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!

Remember, were not talking about a complicated correction, it's really simple, and cheap to do and it's very simple to get a muffler shop to do quality work.

No it is worth it, goes back to why a person would be here even considering to spend a dime on the part in the first place. Stop making excuses and dispense with the efforts to minimise the impact. It's about adding power to the car, makes no sense what so ever knowing the truth to turn a blind eye to the laws that govern exhaust flow. Making power over oem is all about a ruthless pursuit to obeying flow laws and only putting parts on your car the ruthlessly stick to those laws. No aftermarket exhaust company would sell a exhaust system with a 1/4 abrupt ridge in the flow path, why, because it will cost flow and power.

And shame on anyone that simply let's anyone do sub par work on their car. I designed and build my custom exhaust in my garage. I spend 8 hours under the car helping the shop weld my work up.

1.No shop will do shady work if you simply tell them in express terms what you want and that you have to be called to the car before it's dropped to the ground, tell them if it isn't done right it, it will be done over till it is.
2. Number one thing is to trust your instincts when you first visit the shop, if you smell a bad attitude, walk out then and their, I've never had bad work at a shop that gave me good vibes when I first talked to them. And you'll go back to them again and again.

As I said before you can bolt on this Y-pipe and make power over oem. But you are limiting that increase if you don't do something if your sticking with the 65mm system down stream. Exhaust gases tend to cling to the pipe wall's as they travel through the system, running into a abrupt 1/4" high wall just at the merge point will wreck havok on the flow at that point. I honestly don't care for this Y-pipes collector design or how it's laid out, one could do better (I know, that means $$) my posting in this thread centers on those hooking oem 65mm piping downstream. Point is, it does matter, and it's easy and cheap to make it right. Buy the Y-pipe, order the 3" to 2 1/2" transition tube and visit some muffler shops in advance and set up a install appointment with the one you like.

If you still can't do that, spend more and buy a Y-pipe that is right for use on oem pipe diameters in the first place.

NFC motorsports Y-pipe 65mm collector diameter $295
www.nfcmotorsports.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=exhaust

The other Y-pipe that will match the rest of the oem system down stream is comming from kinetix racing, it will sell for a bit more then the NFC, but if offer's the smoothest bends and the best collector design. It will sell for $349, they will be doing a announcement on my350z.com next week on their Y-pipe.
