$190 Y-pipe group buy!!
Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!
So.... you propose to hack off the nice factory welded mounting flanges....and have some muffler shop guy cut and re tack the reducer onto the Ypipe, then weld it onto the stock mid pipe????
I don't think that would do it for me....

Not quite, not in the disparaging picture to say the least, one simple cut, two simple welds. Slice off the mid pipe flange, weld a 3" flange ($3 part) onto the reducer that allow's the new Y-pipe to bolt right up and weld the reducer the oem mid pipe. You tell them in a paragraph what you want and how it has to look when their done. You take 10 seconds to walk under the car when they say their done and make sure it's to your standards. If something that simple still isn't for you, that's why I listed the Y-pipe(s) that ARE ment for use with a oem exhaust system. I've already told the why, I won't repeat the facts, if you choose to ignor them, ok fine have at it, but why mod in the first place if your willing to settle for something that imperfect?

Gsedan35,
You must know someont in a muffler shop that can actually weld.
But actually my main point is....Most aftermarket G exhaust systems show a loss of HP in the lower RPM range due to not enough back pressure. (Borla)
So...this pipe should actually help with the small change in diameter...until the user decided to go FI and replace the entire mid pipe and muffler.
It is a great deal.

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. I've been to 6 different muffler shops, in 2 different areas: SF Bay Area and San Diego. I've had nothing but trouble with my "custom" mufflershop jobs. None of the shops I went to took the time necessary to do a good job. They all rush you in and rush you out, even when you make an "appointment". All the welding and flanging work that they've done has warped or leaked at one point. I spent over $800+ in muffler shop fees trying to get my exhaust on my turbocharged Eclipse right.
Take it from someone who's been there and done that: Muffler shops and "custom" jobs are the worst. Unless you have a really good shop, don't waste your time and money.

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!
OK OK - arguments about whether to mod or not and which shops to use aside...GSedan35 - what can you tell me about the HP increases on a Y-pipe that starts at 3" and then transitions down to 2.5" to mate with the OEM exhaust, versus one that is OEM diameter all the way down? Are the gains purely from the smoothing of the flow, or does diameter come into play as well?

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!
Just out of curiosity...would this Y Pipe give a deeper sound and possible HP increase (for a Sedan) like a Coupe mid pipe is suppose to? I wouldn't mind a few more ponies and more Coupe or FX-like exhaust sound for a $190 (less than the Coupe mid pipe costs I think). Also, are most people getting this Y pipe going to also get the $20 flow transition pipe (reducer) as well for better flow from the slight change in pipe size from OEM exhaust to the Y pipe, and how much would you expect to pay for installation at a local muffler shop? Thanks for your thoughts...I'm thinking about jumping in, but I have my reservations that this product would really improve power and sound to a noticeable level (for me as I have a stock exhaust and muffler). Thanks.

Re: $190 Y-pipe group buy!!
yah the y pipe will def make your stock exhaust note a lil bit deeper...not much but you will be able to tell...and also yes this will give you some extra hp...and when it comes to getting the adapter pipe or whatever for 20 bucks...if you plan on only doing a y pipe...i would do it...ive told everyone else that i wouldnt do it if you plan on doign after market exhaust a couple months down the road...and installation wise im gonna do mine myself...a muffler shop im assuming will charge you anywhere from 20-80 bucks to install it...it just depends...let me know! thanks
