ideas for my exhaust

I just bought my 2003 g35 coupe. It has a injen exhaust system and I really don't like it. I like the fact it's a dual exhaust, but it doesn't have a crossover ( call me old fashioned, I like a crossover and less resonance inside the car) I also feel that the "mufflers" aren't doing anything. It seems like the interior of the car is louder than the outside. I just don't like that.

my idea was this:
put a magnaflow x-pipe on it.
add 2 bullet mufflers to it after the x-pipe and before the tailpipe.
-possibly figure out a way to take the "mufflers" off of it and make a tailpipe with some form of an exhaust tip after it. probably a 3 inch open tip.

would the hks clones be quieter than this system? I can't tell from videos what is louder inside the car ect. I don't mind loud outside at all. it's the terrible drone inside the car that drives me crazy.

I'm pretty sure the x-pipe will help.

The hks clone is seems louder in cabin also. I just added the magnaflow x pipe and the in cabin noise is at a minimal. I def just recomend a resonated x pipe for any true dual exhaust.

by resonated x-pipe are you talking about one like a cross flow muffler from borla or magnaflow? I used one of those on my camaro's first system then changed to an x-pipe with just bullet mufflers in the back. but that car is not supposed to be remotely quiet. even inside the car.

ok. would just an x-pipe suffice to decrease my drone in the car? it's 340 dollars for a crossover muffler of adequate quality for my taste installed. it's only 100 for the same shop to make an x-pipe and weld it into the injen duals. I know the guy that owns the shop or he wouldn't work with me so much on it. He think I should redo it all with 2 bullet mufflers and a x-pipe up near the front of the system. He also wanted to do away with the canisters and make a 3 inch tailpipe into the tips. he said it would be very low drone and have a good throaty sound outside the car. He also told me this would only be the 3rd 350z/g35 coupe that he's done. He told me that the flowmaster setup he made for the last person turned out terrible for drone, but made the customer really happy.

Yes just like a borla or magnaflow. It seems like thats what a ton of members on here use also. Yeah ive heard of the setup your exhaust guy is talking about but idk i seems like just the x pipe works well enought for me and other members.

ok. I will probably just start with an x-pipe then and see how it sounds. if it sounds good i'll just stick with that. if it doesn't on to new setup.

well got the x-pipe in early this morning and had a full day of driving to test it out. It is much much quieter. I was able to talk on the cell phone the majority of the time with an x-pipe in there. I found out today while he was installing the x-pipe on there for me that the canisters are blown out completely. I think I'm going to just put a couple cherry bombs on it instead of canisters to quiet it down slightly. He told me he'd do the install of them for free to just bring the mandrel bent pipe and cherry bombs and he'll weld it up for me. So, for me I just need to order some pipe and pick up some cherry bombs on the way home tomorrow. I'm certain it will quiet it down to where I like it.

BTW: I do like loud exhausts. I just didn't like the sounds that this setup gave and the incredibly bad drone it had. I think with the canisters not being blown out I would have liked it more, but from what he told me, it looks like this exhaust has been on the car 50k+ miles.

As far as I know, Borla doesn't offer a resonated X pipe. At least not in their standard systems for the G/Z. They feature a muffler yes, but they aren't X over inside. Just straight pipe though the midpipe muffler.

Magnaflow is the unit that most use here. In either the resonated or non-resonated versions

yeah but they lasted 30k miles on the trans am I built for my dad. Haven't blown out yet, but I know they will

It doesn't bother me that they will blow out. I know they will but at 25 dollars a piece i can handle that.
