HR Y-Pipe with Nismo S-tune

Hey, Ive been searching for a while trying to find an exact answer but I cant seem to find one. Am I going to run into any trouble if I forgo on the Nismo Y and just keep the Hr Y? I have read about problems with the Nismo and I would actually prefer to keep the lower key tone in the exhaust. Will there be any Issues going from the HR Y to the extension pipe? I just need to make sure I have a gasket and good seal? I am going to use the s-tune mid and muffler, just not the Y. Just so Im clear, the hr outlet is 2.5" while the nismo is 3" correct? I couldnt find the info for the nismo piping but I think i read somewhere that its supposed to be 3". Thats basically where my dilemma comes in, I just want to make sure going from the smaller to the larger piping isnt going to cause any problems.

thanks,
Chris

Howdy Chris,

I asked the same question a while back and went through the same issues with ya.

First of all, Nismo S tune claims 6whp gains...
If you take a look at the HR Y pipe independent dyno, I believe it showed 4-6 whp gain...

So... what does this tell you...?

Yes... the Nismo Y pipe SUCKS.
Don't get me wrong, it sounds really good though.

But at first, I didn't even consider putting on the Nismo Y pipe and went with the HR Y pipe.

No problems at all. Fits perfect and just like stock. However, I felt like it was a bit quiet... Anyhow, I had an Osiris tune and it came out to be 251whp.

About 3 weeks ago, I got tired of the quiet HR Y pipe and picked up a JIC Y pipe which is 2.5" to 3.18". To my suprise... My exhaust sounded the same but just the slightest deeper... However... I did gain a good amount of low end torque based on my butt dyno. Granted, my car was already Osiris tuned, but the JIC Y pipe definately gave more power (especially TQ) from the HR Y pipe.

So, yes the HR Y pipe will work, but you should get an after-market Y pipe that will open the S tune. The S tune is a very quiet exhaust. Under 3k rpm WITHOUT HFC, OEM exhaust is actually louder imo.

Hope this helps

-Simon

thanks a lot guys. Really helped me here. I was considering putting the nismo y on to have it all uniform pipe size but I guess ill run with the Hr for now and if I do want to upgrade later ill go with an xyz or something similar. I really just wanted to keep the stock quietness but if your saying even with an aftermarket Y it will still be relatively soft I might just go that direction. just dont want any drone when cruising on the fwy.... or unnecessary attention from the authorities lol

my s-tune y-pipe had a leak in it, so I changed it out for the m2performance hr y-pipe. its a 2.5 inlet to a 3.0 outlet. matches up perfectly and made the exhaust louder. i had the regular hr y-pipe and yes it makes the exhaust quieter. with the original s-tune y-pipe it would be louder vs the oem hr y-pipe.

here is a link to the pipe
