Post Your Comments!

I have been reading numerous posts trying to decide on which Y-Pipe to purchase.......there are more than a few manufacturers and I thought it might be useful to summarize the information and let everyone comment. The information below was obtained from various websites and I included a picture, material, size and weight (stock = 16lbs) when the information that was available.

Tanabe Racing (pic 1): $470 (Performance Nissan)

Fujitsubo (pic 5): $450 (Gruppe-s)
304SS - 76mm (3") outlet

JIC Bullet (pic 2): $437 (Performnce Nissan)

UTR (pic 3): $345 (Performance Nissan)
304SS - 2.5" inlet - 3" outlet - 12.7lbs

Gruppe-S (pic 4): $275 (Gruppe-s)
304 SS - 76mm (3") outlet

I noticed the Fujitsubo and the Gruppe-S are exactly the same as far as the pics, material and outlet size, but the Gruppe-S is $175 cheaper......

I could not locate dyno data on these parts, maybe someone can help and add to this list?

www.350zforums.org also has a y-pipe that is supposed to be just like the Fuji/Gruppe-s, its called Pro-1 and is roughly $239.00.

Hey shooter...Check with Moog i believe he had some Pro-1 exhaust and stuff he might be able to point you to a different shop.

I'm glad you made this post as i told you the other day i wasn't real sure which one is good as well. If the Pro-1 is good...I'll definitely consider that one too!

Tanabe seems to be a popular choice because it's more streight. regarding Fujitsubo vs. Gruppe-S, you're forgetting internal diameter, quality of flanges and welds, and thickness/grade of metal used. i have Fujitsubo Y-pipe, and it is the best looking piece of exhaust hardware i've ever seen, besides their Legalis-R exhaust. i would recommend spending extra moneys and getting something that won't rattle or whine or gurgle.

i looked around and could only find the pro-1 parts at 350zforums........

i agree the "straighter" pipes will create less back pressure.....and should provide a better flow.....so it looks like the tanabe would be the choice since it is only $20 more and the fujitsubo.......

and the quality and material is another part that needs consideration, so the gruppe-s is thinner and sub par quality?

I've seen $359 for the Tanabe.. still waiting to hear if anyone has it installed.

The Tanabe has a 70mm outlet which I think mates with the stock exhaust.

The answer is "the cheapest one". Come on people, it's a y-pipe. It "might" give you 3-5rwhp that YOU'LL NEVER FEEL! I too got suckered into this discussion about a year ago and bought the JIC Y-Pipe. Would I recommend it? NO! Why? Because it costs $400+ and doesn't really do squat!

The stock y-pipe design is pathetic in terms of ~~~flow~~~. Anything is better, but nothing is "that much better".

So, if you just have to replace the y-pipe get the cheapest one with flexures and call it a day.

Just my two cents...

I agree 100%!!!

It is a piece of metal tubing.....no real magic to be had here. What are you going to pick up.....maybe 3-4 hp for $400.00????? That's not a good return.

Also remember......sometimes not enough back pressure will kill your midrange unless you have FI.

I second the "cheapest one", as you WONT gain anything that you'll be able to feel on "the butt dyno" nor will you see anything to grin about on a dyno either. The stock Y-pipe on your G gets the job done just fine, and although the aftermarket ones may be slightly larger in diameter (contribute to a little more exhaust tone / grunt) and or a little better in design (in terms of flow), if you don't have a good set of headers and or a exhaust system to back it up, it just aint worth the $$$. TRUST ME! I dished out the big bucks for the Fuji y-pipe and have yet to see or feel any gains from it. Save you money and get the cheapest one...
