Fyi, you can have a Z-tube and still remove the power duct if you're looking for more induction noise on a budget (you also get to retain the stock airbox which flows more than enough air for your N/A car)...it takes all but 20 seconds to pop off the screws and remove it, no tools needed.

K&N + Z-tube is about 150 bucks. I use Apexi + Z-tube. If you're not worried about heat soak, pop-charger can be had for under $300 I think. (I've never looked it up cause I've never wanted one)
Isn't popping off the power duct bad though?

I heard on another forum that adding a z tube amd intake does not really affect normal operation, like you can't really hear it until your in a wider throttle range. This true? I mean I want something that makes it louder on start up of engine and overall acceleration and overall drive.

Yes it is true. The intakes are really only good for sound if you are heavy on the throttle. You need to look into some exhaust mods for a better sound all around. But still, when you open up the throttle, some aftermarket intakes sound beastly!

read this: https://g35driver.com/forums/reviews...atalogged.html

listen to this: https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-...eo-inside.html

If that sound is what you are after go for it. It doesn't hurt anything. You'll probably see an increase of 8-10 degrees at a short stop. Again, do you want performance or sound? It seems like you are going in the direction of sound, if that's the case and insist on an intake, almost any aftermarket intake will give you a deeper growl. Just find one you can afford.

this thread gave me all the info I needed to make my decision: https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-...s-results.html

I stuck to the rev-up airbox + apexi air filter (my full exhaust drowns out any induction noise anyway). But if I had to choose an intake my first choice would be Stillen because of their design. Second choice R2C simply out of curiosity.

If it were my $300, I'd put it towards a Motordyne 5/16 spacer (if you're an AT). If MT you need the 5/16+MREV2 combo but this will exceed your budget

Thanks😁 that helped! And yes I am in favor of sound more than performance and yes my car is an auto with tektronik. Also I am not insisting on an intake. That's just what I've been told to get but I hear that you cannot hear much of a difference during normal operation. Only when your at a wide throttle. So I'm going to remove the power duct forsure and do you reccomend I get an intake or a exhaust system. If exhaust, how much do they run? And feel free to email me to make communication easier. just add some high flow cats to your stock exhaust to make it louder.

Crawford
Fast Intentions
Kinetix
Berk

do some research for price and what they sound like

here is a vid of Kinetix High Flow Cats (HFC) with a stock 350z exhaust same stock exhaust as the G35 Coupe

Alright awesome! Yea on my 06 coupe auto I don't get that rumbling sound that you hear in the video. And that's what I want. Its too quiet like a new Toyota Camry or somethin. Thanks! I'll look into buying HFC's, but that's all I need right? Just HFC's?

A very cheap exhaust mod to get you some more grunt to your exhaust would be getting an aftermarket y-pipe from Megan racing. It should only be around $200 and is a direct bolt on so installation should be easy. Downside with the test pipes is that people have told me they will create a lot of rasp and the exhaust fumes apparently smell pretty bad . The other cheaper mod would be getting a nice set of High Flow Cats from Berk technology to name one. And will probably cost you around $3-500 and can give you a little extra torque and HP. Also same story with installation, just bolts right on.

Ok so I plan on buying some hfc's and removing the power duct. But is the power duct on the exhaust or intake? And that's pretty much all I need to do right? Install HFCs and remove power duct

The power duct is part of the intake system so it is in the engine bay. And once you get the mods done, start her up and see how you like the sound. Then you can figure out if you are cool with that or want some more noise coming from the backend.

So I should just remove the power duct before I buy the HFC's and see how I like the sound?

With the power duct mod, you should only hear a difference when you open up the throttle just as if you had installed an aftermarket intake system. At idle and normal driving conditions staying within 3-4k RPM you won't hear much of a difference with just the air duct and z-tube. The HFC will be the one that makes the overall tone of your car different.
