Review: Sokie Tech hood damper struts
Review: Sokie Tech hood damper struts
I purchased the Sokie Tech hood struts off of ebay. The company makes struts for a lot of vehicles. $49 + $18 shipping (from Taiwan). The vendor shipped right away. Arrived 12-13 days later. The hardware is decent quality and is powder coated black,. The struts are powder coated black as well. The install is actually a little easier than the NRG struts. The bracket that bolts to the fender is offset and does not require any sheet metal bending unlike the NRG. It fits with the plastic battery cover without trimming. My only criticism is that the struts are strong enough to hold the hood up even half way but they do not push the hood up on their own. You have to lift the hood by hand all the way up and the struts will hold them up from there. Closing the hood is similar to closing the hood without the struts. Lower the hood until about 1/4 open, then drop.

I just installed these sokie tech's on my G coupe today. I opted for the carbon fiber ones. $90 canadian on ebay with free shipping from taiwan.
The good:
- Has a great fender bracket, requiring no fender bending like the NRG dampers. ( not sure about the tein's )
- Didn't have to pre-compress for fitment.
- Lifts my hood up to 90% on their own after opening hood. ( have to push up for the last %10).
- Carbon look is great.
- I easily cut the stock hinge covers to fit with new bracket. will post pics later. ( needed new double sided mounting tape to replace factory tape )
- great fitment, no rubbing
The bad:
- one fender ball mount was too large
. Wasn't going to bother returning package to taiwan, so i sanded and spun down the ball mount until it fit properly into the damper.
Overall:
- love them, make for such an easily accessible engine bay. Give that show look as well as provide functionality. Its nice to be able to get rid of that hood prop as well.
Thanks for the review.
I used your pictures as reference for the install.

So what are our options for hood dampers now? NRG ones require you to bend some sheetmetal, while these Sokie Tech ones don't. How about the Tein ones? Are there other options out there?
