Weekend project - Wrap diffuser in Carbon Fiber cloth

I got bored with my black diffuser so i decided to wrap it in carbon fiber cloth. I got things going tonight, but no resin yet. I just finished gluing everything and im kinda digging the dry matte look on the diffuser though I don’t think it would hold up against weather if I left it like this.

Im also still trying to figure out how to deal with the fins. Im gonna have to cut it to wrap them. Im gonna try to keep the cut on the back side of the fins so it doesn’t show, but we will see what happens tomorrow.

Some pics, sorry the lighting is bad. I might be able to get some better ones later.

you cant play with real carbon like that... you'd destroy the weave. I'm pretty sure this is the imitation fabric

ps. dont use resin with this material

and I wouldn't put resin on it. If anything get it clearcoated with automotive clear and let us know how it comes out.

By the way... it could be exposed to any weather, I wrapped a CLS63 AMG grille with it a few months ago and it's still holding strong.

because this material wasn't designed\intended to be saturated by resin. it has no structure and will not form a modulus with the material.

your best bet to keep it in place is a spray adhesive that works on fabric.. 3M77, SM90, etc..

just make sure your exhaust doesn't melt the material..

Definitely won't be the best idea to keep this exposed next to the exhaust. Like Igor said, automotive clear...maybe. Definitely no resin.

I've seen this stuff with clear, and an exterior application
It looses any resemblance to CF that it had.
& I doubt it will last very long near the exhaust.
