Stock satellite radio antenna alternative?
Hey guys/gals i plan on painting my roof gloss black very soon once i get my trunk. i have the stock satellite radio antenna on my 05 coupe its the big one not the smaller one offered in 06. is there any way i can get shark fin antenna like the BMW's or the new Genesis coupe?
i want to keep my sat radio but hate the look of the antenna so much
not the best pics but you can see the antenna on my G then the nice shark fin on the Genesis

Thanks for any help,
-Wes

that antenna is a glue on from when the sat radios first came out. if you look along the edge of the glass, you should be able to see it routed around the rear window and into the trunk.
if you want the late model roof antenna, purchase one from infiniti or bmw and have it mounted when you get your roof painted. they're going to have to take down the roof liner and drill a hole to route the wire. if you don't want to go through this process, just place the antenna on the rear speaker deck. my g37 came with xm, so i installed sirius and mounted the antenna in this way and i have no reception issues.

probalby not. the factory roof antenna probably comes with the wiring down to the sirius receiver. it should be a simple unplug of your current antenna and plugging in the new one.
i would call infiniti and see if they have a part number for the internal mounting hardware and wire that connects to the satelite radio receiver. if not, your roof antenna looks like it is small enough to be covered by aftermarket bmw type shark fins. here is a mazda forum posting of something similar. if i were him, i would have driledl a hole through the roof and ran the wire inside under the headliner instead of notching out the antenna for to run the wire out the back of it. you should be able to drill the hole in your roof, run the wire inside and have the fin attached to cover the antenna itself. if my memory serves me right, i'm pretty sure there is a thread on driver about someone having done this already.

giving credit to this guy.
search is your friend...lol.
Heyy, the part number for the Shark fin cover is INF 28228-EH004 its about 10 dollars and comes in any paint color in the 05-06 colors. You need the inside SAT attena and that part number is INF 28208-EH100 and thats about 40 dollars. If your not using it as an anttena and just for looks you will have to use a dremmel and take off the metal peice that exstends downward into the roof. Then it will be flat and just use some Epoxy and your good to go. If your going to use the attena for your SAT radio then you will need to drill a hole into the roof for the install. Ohh and if you do drill, you will need the nut to secure the antenna and that part number is INF 28219-ED000, hope this helps
