Agreed. It's still your buddy's fault for failing to request a test-fit before they painted and installed. Many body shops are in the business to make money, not make sure you're happy with aftermarket fitment on X part.

its all about the shop that will fit the bumper... I bought my last bumper from a vendor that had good rep for fitment but if that was true, so much work needed to be done to it so it can fit, not counting the work to make it line up to bolt it on at least... but after a lot of hard work and dedication the shop and I got it done. I hate sanding FG and using FG to mold and reconfigure bumpers, i also filled my corner lights in. If you want authentic, go authentic, if you want replica, then contact the vendors or check their threads for complaints regarding fitment issues, simple as that
