piaa fogs-please help me out
I'm looking into buying some piaa H4s and I was hoping someone could clarify a couple things that I'm unsure about.
1) Between the Xtreme White Plus (PIA 15224) and Xtreme White (PIA 15260), is the only difference the wattage (110/100W vs. 135/125W respectively)? And does higher wattage=brighter=better? At the higher wattage, should one be concerned about too much heat being generated that you run the risk of damaging or melting the housing?
2) Do we lose the dual function of our fogs/highs with these particular bulbs? Is the only solution to keep both functions the super plasma (PIA 15560) or super plasma gtx (PIA 15561) (in other words buying bulbs that list two kelvin ratings)? A manager at Tweeter told me that two numbers for wattage (eg. 110/100W) means that your fogs operate at the lower wattage and the highbeams operate at the higher wattage, but since there is only one kelvin rating that there is no color difference. Then I talked to a guy from Opt. Auto and he said that you can only keep your fogs/highs if you buy one of the super plasmas.
3) Has anyone tried the star whites (PIA 13903) or super extremes (PIA 15760)? How do they compare to the stock HIDs?
Last thing I wanted to mention (sorry if this is old news) but PIAA is coming out with a new D2R bulb (6600K). It retails for $473 which is I think is insane but I do want to see how it compares to our HIDs and the philips ultinons that alot of people like.
I appreciate any input/advice.

Re: piaa fogs-please help me out
i have the MTEC H4 fogs in and my high beams are working just fine... i don't recall if they had a dual wattage rating. sorry i can't weigh in on the PIAA question but you might want to look at the MTECs as they were only like 30 bucks i think and they look pretty good.
i've also heard that you want to try to remain as close to the stock wattage as possible as heat could become an issue.
as for the lack of replies.... sometimes if there is alot of really exciting stuff at the top of a particular forum people overlook the other stuff... don't take it too personal it happened to me alot in the past too

if they have only one Kelvin rating (remember this is the scale for color temperature not actual temperature) they will look the same color on fog/highbeam. but i think b/c of the dual wattages, they will get brighter on highbeam setting

1) with higher wattage does come more heat which can damage the housing or the wiring in the car. With my xtreme whites i think it is plenty bright enough and definately brighter than the stock halogens.
2)I went with the Xtreme White Plus and did not lose the fog/high function with them. I really like them because they are pretty close to the color of the HIDs.
I probably would have went with the Mtecs because the PIAA bulbs were soo expensive and the Mtecs are supposedly just as good and a lot cheaper.

good luck getting any help from these guys. I asked for help like a week ago and no one replied. I guess because I too am a noob?
I have now decided to just read and not post.

The reason no one answered was probably because this topic has been discussed a thousand times before and people are tired of the same questions being posted over and over. While you are reading try searching and you'll find the answer to most of your questions before you post. BTW, we were all "noobs" at one time or the other.
