Carbon fiber roof/roof cap
Carbon fiber roof/roof cap
Anyone have any feed back on these? Or know of places to buy them? The look is appealing, but I'm curious about fitment and longevity. Any useful info would be appreciated.
Laying carbon fiber is a PITA! If you've never touched a piece of carbon fiber before, it absorbs everything into the weave. So when you get a carbon part & you see a small imperfection, that was one mistake in laying up that will forever sit on the piece.
AS I HAVE STATED IN MANY THREADS... Fitment is about a 8/10. When you lay it on there it fits closely. But there are gaps and inperfections. What I dont like about the caps is they dont fit under the rain guards on the sides. Most use a glue and put it on top of the rain gaurds... Its a good option but the caps are only OKAY... I wish they would make a bubble roof for our car...
This roof I did was a HUGE PAIN IN THE ***. The first one that you see the imperfections on it with, that was a cap. it bubbled like that for multiple reasons that you dont know looking into it if your not into the manufacturing side or the racing side of cars...

If anyone is thinking of doing this to their car. And are thinking about hand laying over a cap KNOW there are a lot of steps you need to take. I put a layer of bondo down then sanded it and layed fiberglass on that. If you lay Carbon Fiber fabric down onto the roof then when it gets really cold the roof freezes, and it causes things to happen to the carbon fiber. You MUSH have a layer in between the roof and the layer of carbon fiber. Hence why I used body filler and sanded it then fiberglassed it then made it flat again and layed carbon fiber down on top of all the layers... This is why I get scared with the caps just being glued onto the roof...
