Hood Gap
Possible the headlight tabs are broken (headlight assembly replaced with another one that had cracked tabs from improperly removing), also possible the hood hinge is wearing, when you open the hood does it feel like it binds up just a little bit at the back of the hood? Also possible the vehicle was damaged in an accident, remove the bumper cover and inspect closely for damage.
Does the headlight feel sort of loose? Can you wiggle it around or is it very solidly mounted?
Pictures would help also.

I think you have it a bit backward. Those are certainly sedan headlights; I'll bet it's a coupe hood. That's a guess; haven't compared any pics. Also, that's a sedanX bumper. The third hole centered low is the giveaway.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

^^This. It's an 05-06 SedanX. If the hood was 03-04 sedan it'd have that slight cowl look in the middle with 2 defining lines r/l of center that is raised slightly in the middle. The 05-06 hood has a slight raised line in the middle that runs front to back. I see none of those and the bumper gives away an X model as said above, unless it's been replaced on a non-X model.
Yep. Coupe hood. So the previous owner lied his pants off when selling it. Hopefully that's all they lied about.
OP you can make a "band-aid" if getting a new hood is not an options right now, look into getting coupe "eyelids" adhere them to your light and use them to fill the gap temporarily until you are able to get the correct hood.
Ionic Dynamics ones fit pretty good and you can even order them painted.
