Door lock not working (not a actuator problem ) (picture included )

Hey guys, whilst I was installing an aftermarket actuator for the door lock .This thing snapped( picture attached ) I don’t know what this thing is as I tried countless hours searching blindly of what this is. But from my observation it’s what holds the steel cable in place, which allows manual locking and unlocking of the door.

any tips for workarounds , parts for replacement or advice ?

cheers

Don’t know this thing (at the bottom) its supposed to look like the one at the top but it snapped and pretty much makes manually locking and unlocking impossible .

The long white part basically holds the plastic outer part of cable in place, so the inside metal wire can move.

If it's not held in place, everything slides as one, and the metal inside doesn't move, so your door won't lock or unlock.

Go to a junker and pull a lock assembly. Stealerships won't sell you a single cable without buying the entire lock assembly.

If you need a temporary fix immediately you can always use JB weld, but probably a better fix would be to heat weld the plastic with a soldering iron and melt a zip tie , trying your best to make the bottom piece look like the top piece again.

Overall it needs to be replaced because you shouldn't trust anything temporary since it's a critical moving part that will probably break again at the worst time.

Solution

Hey guys thanks for the help and the response. I traced the motion of the cable moving and I stopped it by cable tying it to the other cable . Which kept it in place . It did the job for me ,

cheers

I would slap some JB weld over the whole thing to ensure it doesnt slide around over time.

I doubt JB weld is going to work for that honestly. You might be able to get a zip tie around the black part of the cable, then other zipties attached to that one that then sling around the entire assembly.

That part is the "door lock cable" which on the coupes is part of the actuator, on sedans it's a separate and replaceable cable. I would check eBay if you can't find one in a local pick-n-pull wrecking yard.
